The anchorman of Amerigo's ship. Usually before the captain gets off the ship, a certain few are sent to check the perimeters and check for safety. They were the first Americans. At the time, Native Indians lived on their land and not the later named "America". Or it could be the ships that later sailed to American after the map maker named this land America.

This is a nickname that has been applied to Ben Franklin. Check H.W. Brands biography of that name and the following "Think Tank" discussion on the question, 'Was Benjamin Franklin the First American?'

Either the first person who walked across the Bering land bridge during the last ice age, or after the formation of the American republic in 1989 it was the first person who became an American citizen. Depends on your semantics of 'American'.
