basically the easiest way to do that is times 5/6 by 7 to get 35/42 and times 1/7 by 6 to get 6/42 then add together 35/42 and 6/42 to get 41/42 then just simplify that, and there's your answer, hope that I've been of help and not just more confusing. lol good luck

Ok, well, in order to add fractions with different denominators, you need to find the least common denominator. Like, the denominators have to be both divisible by that number. In your example, the least common denominator would be 42. Since 7 times 6 is 42, then you have to multiply both the numerator and denominator in the fraction of 1/7 by 6 to get 6/42. You do the same for 5/6. Since 6 times 7 is 42, you multiply both the numerator and the denominator by 7, to get 35/42. Now you can add them. So you get 6/42+35/42=41/42.

Hope this helped, good luck!

Determine the prime factors of each denominator, e.g., prime factors of 16 are 1, 2, 2, 2, 2; prime factors of 21 are 1, 3, 7. The "common denominator" must share all of the prime numbers of each denominator.

Usually, the simplest approach is to just multiply the two denominators together. For example 5/6 plus 1/7, the new denominator is 42.

The conversion is allowed because you can always multiply any number by one. The trick is to recognize that if I multiply the denominator in 5/6 by 7, then I must also multiply the numerator by 7. That is 5/6 * 7/7 = 35/42. Similarly for 1/7, 1/7 * 6/6 = 6/42. Now that they have the same denominator, you can add them directly. 5/6 + 1/7 = 35/42 + 6/42 = 41/42. Because the numerator and denominator share no prime factors (other than one), the fraction 41/42 cannot be reduced to a simpler form.

You need to learn the concept of the LCM, or least common multiple. Take your denominators. Now, what is the smallest multiple that both of them have in common? For example, 5/6 + 1/7. If you know your multiplication table well enough, you'll know it's 42. But just in case...

6 12 18 24 30 36 *42*
7 14 21 28 35 *42* 49

There. Now, replace your denominators.

5/42 + 1/42

But we're not done yet. Now, take your previous denominator per fraction, and use it as a divisor with your new denominator.

42 (new D) /6 (old D) = 7
42 /7 = 6

Take this number and multiply it with your numerator.

(7)5/42 = 35/42
(6)1/42 = 6/42

Now, we have common denominators. You know what to do. :] Don't forget to reduce to lowest terms if possible.

35/42 (or 5/6) + 6/42 (or 1/7) = 41/42

When they are different , find a common denominator and i this case it is 42

5/6 ( 42/6=7 then both the numerator and denominator have to be 7/7 to equal the fraction and 1/7 to make it equal would be 6/6

5/6 * 7/7= 35/42
1/7 * 6/6=6/42
==============
answer would be 41/42

ok the easiest way is to get the bottom numbers the same
say you want to add 5/6 + 1/7
the easiest way is to multiply the bottom numbers by each other 6 x 7 then multiply the top numbers by the opposite bottom numbers 5 x 7 and 1 x 6
so the new numbers would be
35/42 + 6/42 = 41/42

I hope that was simple enough for you

You have to find the lowest common denominator between the two. For example, if it is 5/6 + 1/7, the common denominator is 42. If it is 1/4 and 1/2, easy I know, the common denominator is not 8, it is actually 4, the lowest common denominator.

You have to change the denom.'s so they are the same like
5/6=35/42 and 1/7=6/42. Then you add them together and get 41/42. I hope this helped and Good luck!

You find the LCD, you prime factor the denominator. Like 8 is 2x2x2 then you factor the second like um 18 which is 2x3x3 and you see what they have in commin which is 2 so you multiply everything togetherexcept you only do the 2 once because they both have it in commin. So your answer is 2x2x2x3x3. Then you mult the numerator by whatever you need. For your question it would look like 35/42 +6/42. This is because 42 is your LCD
