I'm in my mid 30's and mom and I don't get together frequently. I can only spend about 1,500 on the trip. I live in Houston; she lives in Louisiana. I like the city; she is a country girl. We both like to shop but I like the touristy type of things and she likes that too but enjoys it with a bit of nature. She is a Gatlinburg, TN type of traveler and I'm more like Vegas. I thought about doing Vegas as well as a tour of the Grand Canyon. But I'm looking for other alternatives in the Good Old USA. (Something neither of us have done.) Thank you!!

If she is a Country gal and likes to shop or browse in the coolest shops, or just wants to see the beauty of nature and days gone past then Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge Tennessee. They are 5 miles apart. There is so much to see and do we have been there 15 times and look forward to going again. We always rent a cabin. It has everything you need except food. We bring ours and make our own. It cuts cost and is really fun. Cabins and Chalets with hot tubs and all run anywhere from 85.00 a night and up. I have never stayed in one I did not love. We have stayed in 1 bedroom all the way up to 12 bedrooms with other family members going and splitting the cost. If you are interested and need site info, email me and I"ll send you some great links. Trust me you and your mom would love it! If you prefer a motel they have nice ones from 30.00 up because there are so many cabins and chalets. The best ones are in Pigeon Forge. There are musical and comedy dinner shows. The best I ever saw was Dixie Stampede. There is Dollywood. Just look up things to do in either town and have fun.

Why dont you take your mom on a nice cruise. You can probably go on an Eastern or Western Carribbean Cruise for 5 to 7 days for anywhere between $500.to $700. each. The Eastern Carribbean features the islands of the Bahamas as well as St.Thomas or Puerto Rico there are many to chose from and The Western Caribbean features Mexico. Once your on the cruise ship you really dont have to pay for anything else only if you want to gamble. Have fun and good luck.
