I've recently formatted my computer and installed Kaspersky AV and Comodo firewall. I can connect to the Internet but after some time, the connection is lost (I can't view any websites) and opening the Network Connections from Control Panel shows a small padlock at the top right corner of the icon - (I would send a link for a screenshot but I can't upload images anymore!)

When this happens, I have to restart the computer before I can use the Internet. I doubt this is something to do with KAV and I don't know if this is a firewall issue but I have never experienced this problem before when I was using Sygate, ZoneAlarm or Windows Firewall.

When I run a bandwidth speed test on speedtest.net or internetfrog.com, data will not upload (downloading works) and I can't upload images on imageshack or add attachments to e-mail.

I assume you are only using one firewall; you should never hawe two firewalls running.

Uninstall Comodo Firewall and enable Windows Firewall.

I had a problem with the Comodo Firewall. I had to uninstall it yo get rid of the problem (It worked perfectly for a while and then I had to hit reload several times to get a page to load.) I ininstalled it and went back to the Winsows Firewall.

You need to implement some logical steps in troubleshooting your problem.

Why not try disabling the Comodo firewall and see if the problem still persists. If it does, then you can safely assume that it isn't that firewall and is probably your antivirus or some other system settings.

If the problem goes away after shutting down the Comodo firewall, then you can assume that the issue is with Comodo.

You can either disable/uninstall Comodo and install another firewall such as the free Microsoft one, or get into the options/settings etc. of Comodo and see if you notice anything out of the ordinary or you might find something that allows you to reset the default settings and try it again. If the problem comes back, get rid of Comodo or see if the publisher offers any "support".

It's also possible that it's KAV, but I tend to doubt it. You can use the same process as I described above for determining is KAV is giving you the headache.

There are other really good FREE antivirus programs out there to use. I use AVG but a lot of people also use Avast.
Both are available from http://www.download.com

Hope this helps some.

sounds like it may be your router, or your cable modem dropping the connection after an idle timeout.
contact your isp and ask them if you can check or change the idle timeout settings.
