I am sure St. Anthony loves the exotic rituals of the Catholic Church. If he greases up to the Pope as he greased up to Bush no doubt he'll be canonised !.

I hadn't heard the news until I read your question but I'm pleased. I think everyone should be able to follow their own conscience when it comes to matter of faith. It's sad that in England, worse than in the United States, being Catholic keeps you out of high office. Look at John F. Kennedy and how he was the only Roman Catholic to be President of the USA. But I always think it's interesting when adults change faith because I feel it means their faith is stronger. They're not just blindly sticking to what their parents taught them but actually following their own conscience and using their free will. I am Catholic, I was a lapsed Catholic for awhile, I had issues after my marriage fell apart, but I returned to the church the stronger for having worked through those issues and examined my own conscience, deliberately choosing my own spiritual path.

An objection to a Catholic PM is that he has a say over the appointment of Anglican bishops. But there is no law forbidding it. He's just privately attended Mass as PM and probably wanted to avoid the needless press scrutiny which would have accompanied his conversion while in office.

He is an Anglican - Anglo-Catholic. Wife, Cherie is Catholic (Roman)... No ruling monarch, or shall their heirs be Catholic (Henry VIII). But no rule about PMs being Catholic or not.
BTW, this topic was never about religion, but a matter of faith. The fact the UK is full of so-called "educated" atheistic elites is what 'messed up' the country. And radical Muslims have took advantage of this secular changing, political correctness BS crap. Last time I checked, Vatican didn't become a Lutheran state because of one citizen, "to make him feel welcomed."

There is no law to say that the British PM may not be a Catholic. Only the Queen and her direct heirs may not be Catholic. Believe it or not Tony Blair is not the Monarch.

Rubbish. There's no rule saying the Prime Minister isn't allowed to be a Catholic. That's the Head of State, and since that's the Queen only Elton John has to worry about that. I'm not even sure the Succession Laws even govern that anymore.
Back in your box, mate. It's idiots like you that give the bigots breathing space. Thanks for that.

I find it hard to believe that in the year of our Lord 2007 freedom of religion does not really exist in England.
I guess that is one of the reasons why we American colonists broke away.
With love in Christ.

Of course darling. He gave Northern Ireland back to the minority Catholics who bullied their way to the table by killing over 2000 people.
I love Tony. He's so camp.
