I love the answers you've gotten so far. Funny as heck :-). With their advice in tow, I suspect YOU have decided against trying Maxoderm anytime soon?? I'm just kidding Mdgreg C :-). I know that wasn't the point of your question.

Logically, even, I don't know how the penis could be enlarged by a cream or by a herbal product, so it was kind of interesting to find attention to the matter in an actual empirical study.

I've attached an abstract below. It doesn't specifically deal with Maxoderm, but products like it. I have no idea how reputable the journal is either. Never heard of it. Looks like a German journal. I just reread the abstract and the quality of the writing leads me to believe that the abstract was translated into English, so I'm thinking the original article IS in German...

I can see multifaceted reasons why some men would buy into this. If you are interested in discussing those, I'd be happy to.

We don't get these ads on t.v where I live. They sound hilarious though...

Anyway, here is an abstract I thought you might find interesting.

Penis enlargement - How the internet can harm your patient financially and physically.

Schneider T. Schneider B. Sexuologie. Vol. 12(3-4)(pp 164-166) 2006.

Abstract:
Penis enlargement is of great public interest and various methods and instruments to creating a longer and wider penis are presented in the internet with the potential of causing financial and physical harm to their users. We thus present an overview about penile enlargement in the internet in order to give urologists an idea which variety of information's is available for their patients. We used a well known internet search machine and searched for the term 'penis enlargement'. 56 sites have been examined due to their content offered product and its price. All sites have been categorised and compared to established methods of penile enlargement due to actual data. We could find 19 sites offering vacuum-pumps (costs: 20-247 $, mean100 $) and 23 sites, offering manuals or software-products to enlarge girth and length of the penis by physical exercise (costs: 20-200 $, mean 45 $). 6 sites offered penis-stretchers (costs: 13-990 $, mean 269 $), 2 sites offered weights (197 and 350 $) and 2 sites offered herbal products for oral intake (60 and 100 $). Another site presented a journal and 3 clinics for operative penis enlargement could be found. Due to the actual literature, only vacuum-pumps, stretchers and weights may have a positive effect on penile size, especially after operative enlargement and when used under doctors instruction to avoid physical harm. Physical exercise and herbal products are not known to have any effect on penile size. Operative treatment has not been standardised and thus has still to be seen as investigational. Actual guidelines propose surgery only in men with a flaccid length less than 4 cm and erect length less than 7.5 cm, which matches our own data of 143 measured penises. Only with knowledge of these data, urologists can sufficiently advise their patients.

EDIT: Yup, the media equate a man's penis size with power and masculinity. If we're saturated with this notion AND this belief is somehow indirectly or directly reinforced on an individual level, risk for dysmorphia, in this regard, will markedly increase.

What is "normal" is exaggerated so that anyone falling below a notion of perfection is deemed abnormal. The media sends us this message, then attempts to remedy the fake defect with a fake product. It's craaaazy when you think about it for what it is...

EDIT 2: Another (maybe) black and white view: Maybe greed/needs/wants for the rationally impossible really makes what IS impossible possible. Even when/if empirical findings are accurately disseminated (which, I don’t think is often the case), beliefs, anecdotes, wishes, and placebo effects seem to trump what is possible. I think when reinforced by some macro conception of efficacy (i.e., in the media), and “efficacy” of seemingly similar methods can produce desired results (i.e., in this case, maybe penile surgery) beliefs, wishes, anecdotes, and placebo effects will alter what is real every time...and, will continue to do so, for a good chunk of people.

But, you know, if everyone was satisfied with who they are and what they look like, we wouldn’t learn anything, false or true, and there would be no need to buy or sell anything either. Perhaps a happy medium does exist though regarding our overall satisfaction with ourselves and our progress in this world, but maybe only in conjunction with bits and pieces of these extreme beliefs, wishes, anecdotes, placebo effects that may or may not materialize (in the future) into reality. Maybe in some weird way, we need this type of advertisement to spur technological progress, to feel optimistic or hopeful in certain respects, or to feel good about ourselves.

Anyway, totally out in left field in terms of your question, but I just figured I’d share my nonsense with ya here :-). Might be a good thing this is not an in-person conversation. I can picture people's eyes rolling after reading this little commentary :-).

Two more abstracts:

Mackay, D.
Nutrients and botanicals for erectile dysfunction: examining the evidence.
Alternative Medicine Review. 2004 Mar; 9(1): 4-16. (76 ref)

Abstract:
Erectile dysfunction affects 50 percent of men ages 40-70 in the United States and is considered an important public health problem by the National Institutes of Health. Consumers are exposed to a plethora of natural products claiming to restore erection and sexual vitality. A review of the available empirical evidence reveals most naturally occurring compounds lack adequate clinical trials to support efficacy. However, arginine, yohimbine, Panax ginseng, Maca, and Ginkgo biloba all have some degree of evidence they may be helpful for erectile dysfunction. Improvements in penile endothelial L-arginine-nitric oxide activity appear to be a unifying explanation for the actions of these naturally occurring agents.

Danjou, P., Alexandre, L., Warot, D., Lacomblez, L., & Puech, A.J.
Assessment of erectogenic properties of apomorphine and yohimbine in man.
Source British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology. 26(Dec): p 733-739. 1988.

Abstract:
A 4 period, double blind placebo controlled study was conducted to determine the erectogenic properties of apomorphine hydrochloride (I) and yohimbine (II) in 10 healthy males (aged 19-27 yr) who received 0.009 mg/kg I, administered as a subcutaneous injection, or 0.30 mg/kg II, administered as an intravenous injection. It was found that I induced an erection starting from the fourth minute post-injection without stimulation and potentiated the erection induced by visual stimulation. Yohimbine did not modify penile diameter without stimulation and did not affect the physiological response to erotic stimuli. One subject experienced severe anxiety while infused with II.

Here we go again with another "penis length/size" question.
Average is about 5 to 6 inches. Penises come in a variety of sizes. Your penis size will be the size you are given! There are no pills or creams, no toys or tools that will make a penis longer or larger. Any product claiming to do that should be regarded as being suspect. Likely it is a scam and the only thing that will get bigger is the wallet or bank account of the person/company offering the product. Look closely at the promotions and you will see that the product is not tested, inspected, approved or endorsed by any reputable organization. If it works why has it not been submitted to the U.S. Federal Food and Drug Administration for FDA Approval. If you are concerned that your penis is not large enough then consider that the average length is 5.5 inches and frankly that is plenty large enough. Read some of the posts from females who are afraid of the "huge" penises out there. Sure the "American thing" is "bigger is better" but that is not always the case. If you are concerned about the ladies pleasure - and that should be your main concern, you should develop a technique or style that makes the most out of what you were given.
It is important to remember that sexual intercourse is not simply a piston going back and forth at a high speed. Actually a lot of the "jocks" haven't figured that out yet. If you work at developing a style you will score more and it will be more fun for both of you.
And it will be fun learning the technique.
And if you are still wanting to do something to make your penis bigger, each night before you climb into bed, get down on your knees, bow your head, and pray for a larger penis. Trust me, you stand a better chance this way than with any tools or toys

Every last one of these "male enhancement" products is a scam. There is no scientific evidence to prove that any of them work, and you will not find research supporting their use in any reputable medical journal. There is only one way to actually 'enlargen' a penis and that is through surgery; and many urologists now agree that surgery is not a good idea unless there is definitely some type of physical defect or dysfunction. And for those of you who're wondering, a five or six inch penis is not a 'defect'.

It is unfortunate that some guys are so insecure about the size of their penis that they throw their money away to these snake oil marketing companies.

Maxoderm uses Yohimbe Bark in the potion. It's best to take Yohimbe Bark internally and let it do it's job there. Yohimbe Bark will increase the blood flow to the penile area, therefore increasing the tissues to expand. Take advantage of this by using Jelging Exercises to increase penis size.
Check out the video Matters of Size which explains those techniques.

It is NOT effective at all. In fact, claims that the penis can be enlarged by creams and pills are all fraudulent scams. Save your money. No such studies exist.
