I used to work at Sears in their tool dept.

There are lots of good brands for table saws. Craftsman, Ryobi, Dewalt, all come to mind. However the more that you pay for one the better the features.

The high end fences will save you time on measuring, but are not necessary. The main thing that you want is a belt drive, so that it will slip and not burn up the motor. Also you need to look at how easy it is to add accessories. Some blade slots are not replaceable or are too narrow to take a tongue and groove maker. A ten inch blade is a must.

For "affordable brands" I would go to Lowes or Home Depot.

Lowes tends to have a bit better quality and thus a bit more expensive, but not by much.

HD may have a bit less expensive choices, but the brands may not familiar.

But you do get what you pay for.

Anything made by Craftsman at Sears is usually good quality and at a reasonable price.
