My computer won't turn on, everytime I try there always this screen that tells me to scan for viruses, and check my hard disk, how do I fix this?

To be precise, a blue screen appers right before windows would usually start up, and it would say "Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to see if it is properly configered, and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F for hard drive corruption and then restart your computer."
By the way, my hard drive is practicly new.
Anyways can any one help me solve this, or tell me how to check for viruses, without starting my computer?

When you start your PC
If you cannot get to the desktop
---> answer NO to check for Virus (or ESC)
---> answer NO to check harddisk (or ESC)

If you can get to the desktop (see Option 4)

Option 1:
Hit the esc key
then press F8 for the startup menu
Select LAST KNOWN CONFIGURATION THAT WORKED

Option 2:
Hit the esc key
then press F8
Select Logged mode
--If this shows AGPxxx.SYS as being the last thing loading
you will have to restart in Safe Mode and remove the current VIDEO ADAPTER. Then restart. You may be asked for the drivers disk for your video card.

Option 3:
Hit the esc key
then press F8 for the startup menu
Select Start NORMALLY
- Hold the Shift key during the entire startup process until you get to your desktop

Option 4 (about the same as Option 4)
Hit the esc key
then press F8 for the startup menu
Select SAFE MODE
When in safe mode
- select Start
- select Programs
- select Startup

remove all items in the startup folder that you think may be the culprit.

OR use MSCONFIG from the RUNLINE and uncheck startup items that way.

Option 5:
Find a TECH

Hope that helps

i don't know if this applies to this particular blue screen...but I have seen it where bsods come up before windows and i have fixed it by re-doing the boot sector through the recovery console.

all you have to do is put in your xp disk and boot from that. Then go into the recovery console by hitting "R", a DOS sorta command prompt will come up. This is where you can run your chkdsk /f or /p or /r or whatever if needbe, but you can also run fixboot. This re-writes the boot sector. Sometime the boot sector can be corrupted from power outages or improper shutdowns.

I dunno give it a shot!

sounds like you have a virus,

lets see if it is working,

boot up your system 10 seconds after youe switch on just keep pressing F8 key, don't keep it pressed down

just keep giving it a gentle tap, it should boot into safe mode,

if it does your ok, it will ask do you want to start in safe mode, andswer yes, and then let it do it's own thing, once you can get into safe mode, get back to me and I will tell you what to do
