I like it. I don't think it's too complicated but trust me you won't end up using the full name anyway. I have a son named JaCoby and the only time i use his full name is when he's in trouble. I'm a fan of different names even though my sons is kind of popular now but our next one whether a boy or girl is going to have another name that has Ja in the front. I would say if you like it don't worry about what anyone else thinks. You didn't say your race and from the name people are going to assume black. Since I'm black I have no problem naming my kid whatever I want and people will just deal with it but if your child is white you probably just want to be prepared for some comments but I still say use it.

I know so many people are going to say the name sounds GHETTO its like naming your kid LaShawndra come on and get real you don't want your baby going into a job interview and then the person asks her name and she goes TaShawna Nicole Dawn Clarence the second just giver her a normal name

Personally I like the name, but of course you know by now how closed minded and racist society is. Just check back a few comments before mine. If you like it use it. Just make sure she is super smart because she is going to have to put that extra behind everything she does. The sad truth is that people will overlook resume's that have what people would consider "African American" names. It happens. But if she's smart then people forget about that. The trouble will be getting her foot it the door for that initial interview. But look at Condoleeza Rice I wonder how many people put her resume' to the side and look what she is today. Good Luck and Congrats.

i think that people are expecting you to pick a "white girl name".. I mean, honestly.. what names that are commonly used or even that is unique and used by african-americans AREN'T considered "ghetto"? My name is Faatimah. I'm sure lots of people looked at me when I put in applications and just was like.. ohhh kay. But it doesn't matter, I will soon be going to college and becoming a dental hygientist.

I am a black woman and my baby is going to be biracial. I have selected the name Bianca Jade because I think it's beautiful.

And I think TaShawna Nicole is absolutely beautiful :)

And all the haters can really, really keep hating.

Let me preface my answer by saying that I am a 40 something middle class white guy from the suburbs. I mean no disrespect to you, but I do not care for your choice and would not choose that name for my own child.

Prejudice exists in our society. People pre-judge other people and make assumptions based on very small amounts of information. If you were to name your child TaShawna Nicole, people would make assumptions about her before they met her, based only on her name.

Teachers, college admissions personnel, business people, and future employers might very well look at that name and make unflattering assumptions about her based only on her name. In this society prejudice exists, and people make snap decisions.

I do not wish to offend you and I know nothing about you. I do not want to make assumptions about you. But I will tell you what sort of assumptions people will make about your daughter should you choose to name her Ta Shawna. They will assume she is poor, black, uneducated, and has bad manners. Her name re-enforces stereotypes, it's the sort of name that comedians (both black and white) make fun of. It's a sort of cultural shorthand for all the negative attributes that have been unfairly heaped upon the African-American community. She will be judged (unfairly) based on the name you choose. She will have to carry that name and it's implications with her for her whole life.

I realize that you love your daughter and want to give her the best of everything that you can. I urge you to be practical and think of the long term. You want your child to have every advantage. Our society and culture change very slowly and it is likely that naming her TaShawna will put her at a disadvantage.

Are there any family members that you love and respect? Naming your child after one of them would be like giving your child a legacy. Are there any historical figures you admire and would want your child to emulate? Any leaders, writers, business persons, teachers, etc. who's names hold a special meaning for you? There are hundreds of baby name sites on the internet, I urge you to keep on looking. Or at the very least, reverse the order of the name and call her Nicole TaShawna.

I like Shawna Nicole better. But TaShawna isn't terrible. Even though people may disagree with you, what is important is what YOU want to name your child. I'm just glad I don't see funky spelllings here...

I like it... PS just warning you.. you're probably going to have a couple of insensitive people respond to this question...

Don't let them get to you...

Always use this rule of thumb for naming.. if the last name is long- use a short 1st name, and vice versa
