Well to be honest there are not a lot of choices to begin with. Most people don't stay in Death Valley overnight, just a few hours. However some do stay and hike or just relax. Keep in mind that it's getting very hot there now, and in another month it will be unbearable.

The best reasonable priced hotel would be Furnace Creek Ranch, or you can go cheap and stay at Stovepipe Wells Village. The nicest place is Furnace Creek Inn, but it's kind of expensive. Like I said, there are not a lot of choices as not a lot of people stay.

Good luck and be sure to bring water with you.

don't stay at Stove Pipe! It is a dive!

The furnace Creek Ranch is near the dunes and nice enough.

If you can camp out it is the way to go. It does not get cold at night at the camp ground and there are no scary things running about. Just lots of lizards!

If you have time and can go off road at all (easy roads) don't miss Titan Canyon! It is an all day trip, but you will love it! There is an oasis out there! You must stop there, the wild orchids are amazing! Also, your kids ill love exploring there, there are tons of petroglyphs. I could go on and on about the trip, it is one of my favorite day trips in the western US.

Hopefully you are coming soon, while the desert is in bloom.
