Fairmount Park , at 9200 acres, is one of the largest city park systems in the world. Much natural beauty to explore, and historic sites and architecture, as well. There are 215 miles of well-marked hiking paths through the park, with the most popular being Forbidden Drive (where no cars are allowed), which runs along Wissahickon Creek. Bikes, strollers, dogs on leashes are all welcome.

The Philadelphia Zoo, on 3400 West Girard Avenue, is America’s first zoo, and home to over 1600 animals, on 42 acres.

Eastern State Penitentiary, at 22nd Street & Fairmount Avenue, is a closed down prison that offers tours of its beautiful architecture and old rusting cells, including its death row cells. During Halloween, it is turned into a massive haunted house. Creepy. Al Capone slept here.

Speaking of creepy, the Mutter Museum, on 19 South 22nd Street, is a must-see for seekers of incredible medical anomalies. Ever see the world’s largest colon? Or Siamese twins joined at the liver?

In Northeast Philadelphia, on 8046 Frankford Avenue, is the Insectarium, and, as its name implies, is all about insects. Kids love this place, as do the adults.

Philidelphia is rich in history. Park the car at a parking garage somewhere around Independance hall and take a personal walking tour of Philidelphia. To go inside Independance Hall you need to get tickets, the tickets are free however only a few hundred are given away each day and you need to get them early in the day. Ben Franklin's grave site is not far from the hall again free as it is a cemitary. A short walk from Independance hall is the Home of Susan B Anthony, if I remember correctly it was around $5 a person to get in and they have added a gift shop next to it. In the evening they have walking ghost tours through the historic district. The US Mint is also located not far from Independance hall. There is Penn's Landing the site were William Penn first made land fall, it is more of a park now then anything. The librity bell sits in front of Independance hall. There are numerous churches from the 1600's and 1700's. Basiclly if you are history buff, it won't be hard to find things to do. Alot of the history stuff there is free or very cheap. My wife and I went about 2 years ago and spent less then $200 for a hotel, rental car, food, and attractions.

Depends when you are going? If it's this weekend? There is the Sokesberry Regatta on Kelly Drive ( Crew races). The King tut exhibit at the Franklin Instiute is of interest to some. The Big Bike race is in a few weeks. The Phillies are in town. There was a Cool import Car show last week end I missed. Lots to do! check the paper. Http://www.philadelphiaweekly.com

Philly is a very walking friendly city. You can start at the liberty bell (there's a great information center with free maps and all of that) and within a few block radius you can see the spot where ben franklin's old house was, the continental congress, where they signed the bill of rights, you can take a carriage ride, the Franklin institue museum is very good- king tut is currently there, plus the regular exhibits and Imax are definately something to see.

You definitely want to have your friend get some video of you at the top of the steep steps where Rocky Balboa did all his workouts. I think the Liberty Bell is in the background but I'm not for sure. Anyway, in this video, you should be doing an exuberant victory dance of triumph to celebrate all the many obstacles you have overcome in your life to get where you got to today.

Just an idea.

My brother and I are going to visit the King Tut exhibit at the Ben Franklin Institute, but you'll have to be a history buff to enjoy that I guess.

You have to go to South Street for shopping. The best diner is there called the south street diner. Cheap food and you get alot. And it close to the liberty bell and historial area.
