If the insurance does not cover it you can ring whirlpool and tell them and if they put you off tell them you will take it to a television current affairs program as they represent the hob as indestructible.~~

most home insurances doesn't cover domestic appliances, other than contents in you freezer, but check you policy. Whirlpool do have a 10yr parts warranty on a lot of their products, check that out and if you are covered then you would only have to pay the labour, mind you that will probably be around £100, but still cheaper than paying parts and labour from an independent repairer. Other course of action could be to check out the price of replacing the whole unit, check your high street retailer or appliance Internet retailers. And no they are not unbreakable as you know now !

when my ceramic hob cracked it was kind enough to give me written warning some 8 days prior to it cracking, this enable me to contact the insurance company who kindly sent a representative around on the day the hob was due to crack!
sure enough it did crack when it said it would and the nice man from the insurance company witnessed it along with me, several family member and a number of neighbours whom I had shown the letter too! there was no question about the validity of my claim said the insurance chap and sure enough 1 week later I was paid in full! not sure if this will be any help to you as mine was a Smeg hob.

Firstly I would read through your insurance policy to see whether in fact it covers domestic appliances. I wouldn't hold my breath though. If it does not, I would then contact the manufacturers. Maybe they have had problems in the past with this model and type which you are unaware of. I know I had a glass door shatter in my oven. My insurance policy did not cover it. I contacted the manufacturers and there was an ongoing fault with my particular model. They replaced it without hesitation. Hope you get it sorted.

I dont think your house insurance will cover, they rarely cover anything, they have more clauses than soft mick. However I would make a big fuss with the manufacturers as they may help, 3 years isn't that old is it?

take it back if its a genuine fault the makers will want to know about it, and replace, there is unbreakable and there is sudden impact breakable and they can tell whether its been miss used, ie hit with a hammer

when ours cracked we were told if something fell on it , it was covered, but if it just cracked it was not covered. you can guess what happened to ours.
