Within the past two weeks, my doctor and I have discovered ovarian cysts. I had a CT scan which first showed the two large cysts on either ovary and then I went to the OB/GYN and she did an ultrasound. I have surgery scheduled for the same day that I am suppose to be leaving on a weekend vacation and my friends are all upset (of course) that I won't be going on the trip. They keep telling me that this is no big deal and that it can probably wait. But the doctor does not want to put it off any longer since it's been months now and the cysts are so large. It's upseting that my friends do not think this is a big deal, it's a big deal to me. Should I really be worried about anything? I mean, especially since the doctor does not want to post-pone surgery any longer.

It's not a big deal but it's not something that can wait either. If those cysts rupture while you are away on a trip you are going to be in ALOT of pain trust me. I have 2 cysts form and pop every month for a year and I spent that year on Vicodin. Have the surgery and your friends are just going to have to understand that your health is more important. Ask them if they would appreciate the same attitude they are giving you if it was one of them going into surgery.

I am so sorry, it sounds like you have some very selfish friends. You need to get the cysts removed. If you don't and they burst while you are away then your vacation will be ruined by excruciating pain and a trip to the emergency room. It's best to do what your doctors suggest and let your friends know that it's really upsetting to you that they are putting a weekend of fun over you health. If it were them I bet they wouldn't hesitate to take care of themselves and it sounds to me like you should find some friends who put you higher up on their list of priorities. Good luck and get plenty of rest before and after your surgery. :)

If your vacation is for a week or so and if the pain is not unbearable, you could discuss with your doctor about rescheduling the surgery, esp. if your vacation is not involving too much of physical activity. I think your friends do have a good point and you can try to eat and have the cake too in the sense that you could go on the vacation and immediately after return get yourself operated. Do think it over and talk to your doctor.

Removal of ovarian cysts may make you infertile. Discuss such risks with your doctor esp. if you were planning to have children.
