Writ of Mandamus is one of the five writs that any High Court can issue under article 226 of the Constitution of India, or The Supreme Court of India can issue under article 32 of the Constitution of India. This writ is issued against the public authority/state/government or any /public authority state/government run organization to enforce the constitutional right of any person & pass orders with regard to any action or order of the public authority or order the public authority to do its legal duty with regards to the constitutional right of the person & thus giving relief to the person, the courts can also order for any monetary relief for damages done to person by any action or order of the public authority.

Where the Fundamental Rights of a citizen is at stake, the aggrieved citizen may approach the Appex court (u/s 226)for redressal.
