Hiya, Thanks you lot for the answers. I still can't get the damn thing started! lol. have tried all combinations of firing order, the plugs spark ( against the block) and there seems to be fuel, but it doesn't fire up. Was working the other day, till I changed the distributor cap and plugs, lol.. We'll get it sorted in the end though.

Pull the #1 Spark plug out and then turn your engine over until #1 is on the compression stroke top dead center...look
under the distributor cap and see where the rotor is pointing
and this will be #1 on the cap... Have a friend bump the engine with the key (just real quick turns to the start position) and hold your thumb/finger over the #1 plug hole and this will let you know when you are on the compression stroke....it will take several tries so be patient... good luck

Most 4 cyl engines fire 1 3 4 2.Fords were 1 2 4 3 .To find the no 1 dist lead remove the plugs and the rocker or cam cover turn the engine over until both valves are closed on number 1 cyl and the inlet valve on number 3 cyl is nearly closed .this will be TDC and marks on the crankshaft pulley and casing should be aligned.Remove the dist cap and the rotor arm will point to no 1 segment on the cap

are you constructive which you place the wires in the main appropriate positions, in case you pass one hundred eighty off, that's going to sound peculiar additionally. apart from that devoid of understanding a similar element that i continually for, we ought to comprehend engine length for questions like this, v6 or v8. come back to me, yet i'd wager that despite if it quite is a v8, the firing order is 18436572.
