no it doesnt when the baby comes out the midwife will wait until they notice that the cord stops pulsing which means it has basiclly died then they cut it or get you or your partner to cut it. as its not really part of the babys body that they cut as its roughly 2/3 inches away from the belly button the baby will feel nothing. hope this helps xxx

No, the umbilical cord isn't really part of the baby, it is more like an IV for the baby. There really isn't nerves in there. If their cord could feel pain, than babies wouldn't yank on them, chew on them, and twist up in them before birth...you would think. Even if it did hurt, there is no way that they even understand that just after being born. Birth itself is very painful for a baby, so I'm sure the umbilical cord is the least of their concerns.

No it doesn't.

there are no nerve endings in the umbilical cord, meaning there are no recpetors to feel pain when it is cut.

No it doesn`t.It`s not part of the baby`s body which is why it`s cut away from the belly button which is where it attaches to and drops off the body later. The cord is just a network of blood vessels carrying nutrients and oxygen from the mother`s bloodstream to the baby`s.It becomes obsolete once the baby is born as it detaches from the mother`s uterus and is no longer needed to nourish the baby.

My brother stop crying when they cut the cord, so that would be a no! Also all 4 of my babies never cryed to it. I would think if it hurt they would cry alot. I think it would only hurt if it had nurves in it and It doesn't! So that would still be a NO!

The baby starts crying as soon as it is born and continuous to cry. We really dont know for what reason it is crying - whether the umblical cord is cut or the cord is disturbing.

Nope. No nerves in the cord.

When my bf cut the cord when our daughter was born, I was going to yell "ouch" but forgot to, LOL.

No. There is no nerve tissue in the unbilical cord. No nerves = no sensation.
