This is by no means to be offensive or to start a war with this question. It can pretty much be said that if the US pulls out its support of Israel then Israel will then cease to exist and be taken over by the Arab Middle-Easterners.

I wanted to know the reason why the US backs the Israeli government? What do we gain from supporting them?

Check your history books. This also is not to be offensive but the facts are there in any history book.

In 1947, after the war, Germany had a lot of people in camps that needed to go somewhere. The US backed an idea of returning a group of religion people to their "homeland." Unfortunately, in past history their "homeland" was taken over by war and owned by other countries. Somewhat how this country was formed. This did not concern the US, and those who followed its thoughts, and the beat goes on.

They cut a chunk of land out of the other Middle East countries (Israel) and willed it to the religion. Not a happy camper these countries proceeded to fight for their country land returned. We have to continue (60 years) defending our "error" or put our tail between our legs.

The things that push US on is Greed, Power and Control not to mention Money. For over 170 years we always won our wars. Since then (60 years) we have not won one. It is up to the US citizens to vote instead of following the leader (?) and get things straight. The pen is mightier then the sword and nothing has changed in this thinking.

The US was the first country to recognize Israel, only minutes after it was officially created in 1948, consistent with a 1922 Congressional resolution backing the League of Nations mandate for a Jewish homeland in Palestine. Since then, the two countries have developed a rock-solid friendship that does not depend on the parties in power either in Washington or Jerusalem. While there have certainly been ups and downs, the basic bond between the US and Israel, the only country in the Middle East that resembles the US in its values and democracy, is very strong. Both countries have long-recognized that their mutual interests of deterring war, promoting stability and eventually achieving peace are only possible if the United States continues to stand firmly behind Israel.

We were the driving force in starting the country. There are many in and out of the government who feel that is is God's will that we support Israel and we will be cursed if we do not. And others recognize that a democracy in the region is an important part of our national defense. I believe that is obviously true.

Perhaps the USA supports Israel out of a sense of justice. Israel has a right to exist, and without help, would have to face some Arabs that want to drive the Israelis out of their country. Trying to stop genocide seems to me to be an admirable thing.
I don't think Moslems are trying to conquor the World, nor do I think it is the huge Jewish influence over the USA Government that is causing the support. Give the Americans the credit for acting idealistically. It is easy to be a cynic.

I think its because of the same reason that it supports pakistan.
It has been the policy of some nations (including the one you have mentioned) to make sure that divide and rule policy flourishes so that they get the money by providing arms and ammunition.
Israel and middle east
South and North korea
PakistaN and India
The list goes on.

Israel is the only democracy in Middle East and the US wanted to support it as an ally to stop the Islamic states from staging their jihad or world domination.

#2 - They are the only US-style democracy in that oppressive cesspool of a region, the Mid East. As such we have an obligation to help spread freedom.
