this is very simplistic, but is world peace ever going to be possible? i look at racial/political/cultural problems worldwide such as like zimbabwe, where black africans have reclaimed their land from whites, but not without great violence, bloodshed & apalling mismanagement of what they've reclaimed. or the hugely complicated middle eastern problem, encompassing israel's situation, the deep hatred and distrust that exists between muslim countries & the west & the oil issue. my main question is how far back do you go when assigning blame? years, decades, even centuries of dirty dealing & manipulation, mainly on the part of the west, have contributed to these problems. how much responsibility should people bear for the misdeeds of their forefathers & nations? i have been lucky enough to be born & raised in britain, which has in turn grown rich from it's empire & business interests abroad. do i have responsibilities towards those countries? what are they?

Many of the world's feuds are based on history. We have supported the wrong leaders and often times, we should have allowed the matters to be sorted out by the people of that country. While we are greatly saddened by genocide such as happened in Cambodia (Kampuchea), should we intervene? We need the UN to begin to re-unite people instead of trying to be the world policemen. In the US, it seems that many acts are mandated by business or self-interests and the US has supported dictators such as Batista, Marcos, Ngo Dien Diem and the Shah of Iran....all to the misery of the people...in each case, the US wanted something. Those cases are fairly contemporary, but it continues back centuries and the people don't forget. I was raised in Hong Kong and even today I have a strong animosity towards Japanese because as a child I was interred and saw beheadings, beatings and such and the Chinese won't forget! Do you think that the Afro-Americans forget what their ancestors must have suffered as slaves? Or that Native Americans forgive white men for destroying their culture or their invasion? Look at a world map...Algeria and the French....Poland with Germany and Russia, even Ireland and England or Scotland and England, Idi Amin of Uganda throwing out the British. People want to be left alone to deal with their problems of government. They don't want to be dominated by others, and fairly so they must thresh out their own identity and form of government. Do you have a responsibility to these countries. Yes, you must be concerned as to what your country is doing to others. Is it right, fair or just? Terms like democracy or communism are just terms...what we need to do is allow countries to develop along their own lines and not mandate what we think is correct. I live in China now, but I always had the idea that Chairman Mao Tse Tung was a harsh leader. However now I believe that his methods in molding a nation were very astute and he became a builder of a great nation. BUT the people were the important factor. Let people decide.

Why should we, Britons or Americans, have to be the ones to solve the world"s problems? The current generation is not responsible for there creation. The people that have these problems, should be the ones to fix them. As to the west being responsible, if you go far enough back in history, you can find that every country in existence has contributed to the problems, of today.

By keeping yourself to yourself and just accept that other countries have different beliefs and rules!! I wish America would stop trying to take over the world! It is not up to another country to take responsibilities of other countries and what they do. We should only use other countries like we would a shop, to just buy their resources.
You have no responsibilities towards other countries. Look after number one and invest money on your own country like buying fruit, veg and meat that is UK grown.
