This just seems wrong: when people blow people up because they're not the right kind of Christian or Muslim; when people are forced to beg for food on the streets; when we're destroying the very atmosphere of the earth around us... why condemn love?

As I understand it, homosexuality is so great a sin because of the views of a 'Church Father' Augustine.

What to know though is that homosexuality is picked on unfairly by today's modern Christians. If they point ot the Old Teatament;
1) Sodomites were destroyed because they didn't believe that their city would be destroyed, they had no trust int eh message.
2) When they point to the part about homosexuality being an abomination, they fail to equally apply all sin as being an abomination. Thereby they miss the reason for turning to God for salvation. We are sinners saved by God's grace through the trusting we have of him (faith). So it's the same thing as the Old Testament criteria as it is for the New testament. What we had in the Old Testament is the focus of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. What the New Testament did was apply the focus on a revelation from God, Jesus christ. But either way, we have the focus on God for salvation.

So if someone is trusting God, homosexuality is nothing. Because what God wants is trust and then he provides salvation.

So therefore those Christians that make such a big deal out of homosexuality are wrong unless it's the total reason for someone to lose sight of that trust we are supposed to have. But this is what I am convinced of: God personally deals with a person with that problem. He does the convicting of conscience with that particular person to turn away from it. Some people are that way where they need it, and some people have other issues that God is dealing with them on.

From what I've experienced, the person being dealt with on any particular sin finds that it's no longer something that they desire-- it's not as important to them as it once was. That's what happened to me. I want to do other things, sex is no longer defining me or driving me with purpose in life. When the urges come I usually find myself busy. I have other things to do.

In current times the Bible is being used to judge, condemn, and hurt people who a "different"
One of the main lessons in the Bible is love thy neighbor.
Yet these so called Christians preach so much hate. Why do they feel it is necessary to condemn gays? Not even just gays even other religions. It clearly states in the Bible let the without sin cast the first stone.. So why is the line for stonings so long? These Christians pick and choose what to follow religiously from the Bible. IF they are following the Bible word for word...then they better start owning slaves, selling their daughters, and burning bulls..because these are all in the Bible as what is right.
The Bible was written so long ago, and passed down story to story person to person. It can't be taken literally, just maybe a guide, God gave people free will. Let them use it and decide their own fate in the end. I personally feel if you do right and have your OWN relationship with God, you can find Heaven when you cross over.

Not a sin mate! Those who keep quoting the Bible do so for their own gratification! After all the Bible was written by man long after any of the events mentioned therein had taken place! Did Jesus not state that we should love our fellow men? If this is the case why do so-called Christians keep condemning anybody who does not conform to their meaning of the 'norm'? Live and let live - sexuality is not a sin. Murder, incest, rape etc IS!

Mike

Those who keep quoting the Bible etc have the wool firmly pulled over their eyes - the blind leading the blind!

God's Love is unconditional and omnipresent. The concept of sin is mega-difficult to define and religious colleges have been formally working at doing just that since at least the 10th century.

In the spirit of inteactivity =) you can have a go by reviewing the text on this page and errr... contemplating this difficult issue (or not):

http://www.religioustolerance.org/sin_over.htm

I feel that it is only those who hold a corrupted view of what it is to be a Christian, Jew, Muslim, etc...that teach or accept the mass deaths of innocents as a means of serving their God. At its most fundamental level, religions are designed to help anyone to reach a state where they will enter Heaven (by any other name).

My studies demonstrate there is no widely accepted Religious text which states that you should kill someone for having a different point of view - they are more likely to state that tollerance, persuasion and example are the best tools for converting someone. (Haven't read the Talmud yet, but I trust it will agree).

According to my knowledge of religious books, homosexuality is never mentioned. The only thing that is said is that men and women are made to reproduce or something like that... People get to the conclusion that it is sinful based on such statements. It is true that the only way to reproduce is (was) a relation between a man and a woman, but nothing says that homosexual love is sinful, no?? + technology has reached such an advanced level that it is possible to reproduce using artificial insemination with very Small risks...

What is a sin?

It is not what the Bible says or what some religious group says. It is what YOU do that YOU feel bad about, because of some notion inculcated in your youth from your family or society. In other words, something is a "sin" for you if it goes against your personal belief system, if it is wrong for you.

As an example, I used to teach English in the Arab world. My students many times asked me if I ate pork. I told them that I had eaten pork in my own country, but not in their country. "Oh, mister, that is a sin" was the usual response. Now, for me, eating pork is not a sin, not something that I feel is wrong or that I was taught to think of as wrong.

The same holds true for homosexuality. I believe that I was born with this aspect of myself, it is natural to me. And somehow or other, neither my upbringing nor society convinced me that it was wrong. Different? Yes. Wrong? No. So, I live my life being a homosexual, but I do not believe for a moment that it is "sinful." It is just an expression of my being.

As a Christian I wrestle with this question a lot.
My view is that if some are turned away from the gates of heaven simply for being gay, they will be at the end of a very long line of people!

Well, first of all the bibles says it's unnatural. You'll find that I believe in the first book of Romans. People act as if we ( meanings) Christians are making up the rules. My friend God makes the rules. And we are to stand on what the word of God says. You'll have to ask God why condemn love? For in his eyes and all who believe it is unnatural and sick.
