My Mechanic wants to replace the distributor cap on my car and says it's houseing needs to be replaced as well and it will cost me $748 does that sound right?

seems awfully high to me since you can go to a junkyard and buy a distriburator for $25 to $50 and take one out and put one back in in about an hour.

well depending on the vehicle it sounds like a fir price. a drisributor for and older vehicle mid 80's and earlier is about $200 for the parts plus labor and for a newer vehicle i have seen some as high as $500 for just the parts. good luck hope this helps

Unless your talking about a Lamborghini - Ferrari - Bugatti or similar type vehicle which might require more intensive tear down.


You need to contact the better business bureau, this guy is ripping you off.

Like a Malibu, Intrepid, Magnum, Shouldn't cost 1/2 that out the door.

what kind of vechicle? some engines the only way to replace some parts of the distributor is to replacethe whole thing so he may be right. need more info

That would best be discussed with your mechanic, since you didn't tell us what vehicle, why it was in to be seen in the first place, or enough information to make any guess what the cost would be.
