Computer Problems?
I have a Dell Dimension 3000 Desktop computer with Windows XP Home Edition operating system. I damaged my cd drive because the drawer was open, I bumped into it and had to force it to close. Now my computer will not shut off. After I tell it to shut down, it just restarts all over again and I have to manually turn it off while it's shutting down. I tried to disable the drive and delete it, but when the computer restarts again, the drive reappears. Can I get someone to open up my computer and take out the cd drive all together?

Removing or replacing the CD ROM drive is very simple procedure. If you can open the case up, you can remove or replace the drive yourself easily. Just a couple of screws and a couple of connections.

What are you going to do, replace the broken CD/DVD drive?

Windows does not know that the CD drive tray is broken and as long as the CD drive is connected to the IDE channel on your motherboard it will continue to detect it. You would need to take the side panel off of your computer case and reach in side and pull the ribbon cable to remove it from the motherboard.

I suspect Windows believes you CD tray is in the eject position so in the long run you had better replace the CR drive and it will solve your problem.

You can open it your self
there's a latch on the back you slide then remove the side panel
first you unplug the computer
then unplug the cd drive
when you turn on the computer it will know there's been changes and fix itself
but really i can't see what the cddrive would have anything to do to cause your shutting on and off problems you may have other problems
