I have a 2.5 gallon acrylic tank. I used QuickCure with malachite green and formalin to cure ich in my tank, but it stained the white rubber suction cup on my little heater. I'm wondering if MG will permanently stain acrylic aquariums. I don't know if I notice staining on the acrylic or not, but I just want some advice on it. Thanks.

MG is an organic stain and adheres to organic molecules and some few man made molecules that closely resemble organic. It does stain certain plastics, but not acrylic so you have no worries there. Even the suction cup will lose the majority of the discoloration with time.

The staining you think you see on your acrylic is there, your not imagining it. But what is holding the stain would be algae and bacteria growing on the acrylic, not the acrylic itself.

yes Mg will permanently stain the silicone i'm not sure about the acrylic .I don't think it will absorb it .but the green in the silicone will give it a green apperance. That's why you should use a hospital tank to treat fish .Unless you don't have coral's .If you could remove the fish copper is a better and more efficant way of treatment. But must be done accurately!

You will need to wipe it off.. I hate that stuff it stained everything in my tank and i had to take the whole thing apart and wash it out.. (55 gallons) I was not happy with that product at all..

I use API "Safe & Easy" wipes to clean the inside of my tanks.
