Well, it only took us 2 million years to go from Australopithecus afarensis to Homo sapiens. Given another 2 million years AND presuming we don't engineer our own extinction, humanity will be as different from us as we are from A. afarensis.
Two equally intelligent species could co-exist on the same planet IF they are not competing for the same resources, or if they have some sort of symbiotic relationship. Otherwise, I think one would eventually squeeze the other out.

Good morning Roo...Unfortunately I don't see earth still remaining in our Universe in a few million yrs. Sad to say. What I believe that will occur in the next few million yrs. may not sound realistic. Earth as we know it, will be gone. Maybe our Space Program will have landed on other planets suitable for humans to survive or devised a technique for humans to live on another planet not like Earth. Now with this in mind, I feel that we are looking at a completely different type of environment to where by this day and age aliens from different worlds and Solar Systems have made first contact. You are looking at a whole new type of evolution. One that man or human hasn't seen before. I know this sounds a little far fetched by your way of thinking but it's not all that strange. If this does occur, then I feel that the human species will remain as the one intelligent form from Earth but you need to think that there may be more extreme intelligent forms of life that live elsewhere in our mast Universe to where Humans and aliens might create another type of human-alien life form. Anything is possible. have a great day!

Yes, humans will evolve. So far we were shaped by the natural environment, but now we will be shaped by technology. Think diabetes. Some children have it, some old folks have it, but its common to start when the patient is a teenager. In the wild, they would die. However, medical technology has allowed diabetics to survive and reproduce. Their children would have a genetic tendency to diabetes. Long term, humanity will have a greater genetic tendency to diabetes than people at present. This is only one disease, there are many others, which will continue to shape humanity.
Also, microbes evolve. In all diseases, some people are more vulnerable than others. Long term, the less vulnerable will survive.
I do not believe there will be two kinds of humans. For this to happen, there has to be a repoductive separation, and I see the opposite happening. Two centuries ago, mosst people live and die around the same area. Not anymore. We are all too mobile. Therefore, there will be a greater mix than before.

it takes another 5500 million years b4 our sun burns out..before that it will expand past the orbital of earth..which will probably not happen within the next few million years..but much much later..i am too unconvinced that apes of today will evolve to something like us as people have postulated that we share a common ancestry but have taken very different evolution paths..even if dey do have the probability to eventually become more intelligent (similar to human standards)..this probability would have been greatly reduced due to vast human influence that has been and is going to continue on the nature world. well..take everything wif a pinch of salt =)

I certainly agree that humans would have undergone considerable evolutionary changes by then, provided of course that no cataclysmic events intervene. Not so sure about another intelligent animal competing with man. evrything's chance isn't it?

Well in a few million years the sun will burn out and create a black hole destroying our solar system,so no humans wont have evolved into anything.

Your theory would stand up if it wasn't for the fact that we keep killing one another off and by then there just wont be anyone left..
