I'm struggling to find out the difference between sketching a y^2 = x+1 and a y = (x+1)^0.5. Im lost as to how i should begin.

The difference is that y^2 = x + 1 includes positive and negative values for y, while y = (x + 1)^0.5 by definition includes only the positive square root of (x + 1). For example, if we choose x = 3, then the graph of y^2 = x + 1 includes both (2, 3) and (-2, 3), while the graph of y = (x + 1)^0.5 includes only (2, 3).
