The answer is "It depends". In some countries, the masons are just what they say they are - clubs of upstanding members of society.
In other countries the lodges function as exclusive clubs of very rich and influential people, whose business affairs never see the light of the day. I use "business" in the loosest sense of the word.

You'll notice that people who are saying we are evil are not members of our fraternity, so they wouldn't really know what they are talking about, would they?

First of all, we are NOT a secret organization. Proof of this: you know that we exist! Also, you see our symbols on our buildings, our cars, and even on the jewelry we wear. We are proud to announce that we are Masons. Would an evil "secret" society do that? We are a fraternal order dedicated to improving ourselves and our communities.

The Masons are a secret organization. The Bible warns us against associating with secret organizations. The word of God and the plan of salvation that Jesus has given us is for everyone that chooses it. It is not secret, it is not for a chosen few, but it is as God says in His word, for all.

An uncle of mine by marriage was a 33rd degree Mason. He did stop going to the meetings. He died at an early age of 52 from a heart attack. The book Morals and Dogma by Albert Pike was left in the house. I took it to a friend's house because I knew the Masons would come looking for it, which they did---my poor Aunt! I was 16 years old and quite a character. The book was packed away in my attic for many years, until about 20 years ago when all of our family came to the Lord. I had gone to a breakfast meeting at Full Gospel Church in Stafford. The Fords were the pastors at the time and I picked up a small little pamphlet written by Richard Ford on Freemasonry. When I read the things he, as an X-Mason said, I remembered I had this book mixed in with all of my college text books. I quickly brought the book down from the attic and for the first time did more than open it and snap it shut. I began to read this evil, blasphemous book. I was shocked. Without going into all the filthy details, It said that satan was God. As Dr. Ford wrote in his pamphlet, the Masons do not tell their members this until they reach the 33rd degree and then they spring it on them. By this time they are too involved in every aspect of their lives to back out. The book was shown to many men who had just joined the Masons, mostly relatives of friends of our family. We then destroyed the book. (It took more than 30 minutes with all of us drenching it with charcoal lighter---and it would not burn, until all at once the whole book was consumed in flames---talk about weird! Nowdays, if you go online and read the book, it looks like the same book, but the content is totally different from what I read in that total abomination to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Many people say, "Oh, but they do so much good!" Remember what the Bible says, "satan appears as a angel of light." Stay very far away from the Masons. I hope this helps you!

There is nothing evil about freemasonry. If you search internet, you will find hundreds of sources explaining it. It is a broterhood which aims to promote brotherly love, moral values and serving community.

The organization has done some incredibly benevolent things at the public level. Sadly, in the secretive upper eschelons of that organization (i.e., 33rd degree), they have done (and continue to do) things so despicable that it boggles the imagination.
