The people will never force this congress that is so entrenched with continuous re-elections, so reinforced with corporate money, to make any changes that would attack the greed of corporate America. I see no difference in the two parties when it comes to the needs & concerns of the people. As far as I am concerned big oil has the blessing of our government. What has our president said so far? Nothing that I can remember. Orin Hatch made a speech in the senate defending the outlandish profits as "not excessive". If anything is done I will be greatly surprised!

The government will never do anything about the price of gas. They are getting a cut of the profits from the oil companies, and they aren't willing to let go of it. The government absolutely does not care about the average person. There is nothing we can do, and the price will continue rising over time. It wouldn't surprise me in the next 10 years or so if gas were $5-6 a gallon.

The United States has some of the cheapest gasoline in the world. There is little the U.S. government can do to improve the situation.
Take a trip some time to Europe, Australia, or Japan and fill up a tank of gas while you're there. This is a global issue and the U.S. has it pretty good right now in the area of fuel prices.
This is a free market, and the increasing fuel prices are the direct result of increasing global demand for gasoline. We are seeing a change in the fuel market, because higher fuel prices are no longer simply due to instability in the Middle East or other transient issues. This is a longer-term issue related to the increasing demand for fuel world-wide.

You can't make the government do something. The government makes you do something. Also, most people pay more for lots of things than gas.
It's called inflation. A drink at a gas station costs over a dollar a bottle. A drink costed 50 cents 20 yrs ago. Things are three times as high as they were 20 yrs ago. Gas is the same. It just did not go up slowly, it kind of stayed the same and went up suddenly. That is making everyone freak out.
What did you pay for gas 20 yrs ago? It was around 1.30 a gallon. Three times that is 3.90. So according to inflation, it is not that high right now for gas.
When it does get higher than that, that is when I will freak out too right along with everyone else. Nothing should be higher than it is supposed to be.

Wake up..! The government is totally out of control and will do exactly what it wants, which is to continue making as much money as possible from *ALL* the special-interest groups.
Yes, yes...I've heard it all before, "Vote for better people to govern our nation." All that does is trade one brand of thieves and crooks for another.

its government invlovement alone that is what is making the prices so high. this should be a free market, where companies are competing for the lowest price (which equals increased demand)

Yea, maybe we should invade Canada, Mexico and Venezuela.
Since they are who we import oil from.
And they are the ones who have doubled the price of oil over the last 6 years.
Good idea !!!!
When the price of gasoline reachs $4.00,
We invade Canada.
When the price of gasoline reach's $5.00.
We invade Mexico.
When the price of gasoline reachs $6.00.
We invade Venezuela.

Gas prices should be rising, this will force people to be more conservative with fossil fuels and wont impact so much on our diminishing environment.
