Well, the above answerers have given you a lot of his ideas.
First, get the spelling of his name right, ya?
Then, do realise that what he advocated were never scientifically proven, and honestly, his theories are crap.
I rest my case.

Sigmund Freud, physiologist, medical doctor, psychologist and father of psychoanalysis, is generally recognised as one of the most influential and authoritative thinkers of the twentieth century. Working initially in close collaboration with Joseph Breuer, Freud elaborated the theory that the mind is a complex energy-system, the structural investigation of which is proper province of psychology. He articulated and refined the concepts of the unconscious, of infantile sexuality, of repression, and proposed a tri-partite account of the mind's structure, all as part of a radically new conceptual and therapeutic frame of reference for the understanding of human psychological development and the treatment of abnormal mental conditions. Notwithstanding the multiple manifestations of psychoanalysis as it exists today, it can in almost all fundamental respects be traced directly back to Freud's original work. Further, Freud's innovative treatment of human actions, dreams, and indeed of cultural artefacts as invariably possessing implicit symbolic significance has proven to be extraordinarily fecund, and has had massive implications for a wide variety of fields, including anthropology, semiotics, and artistic creativity and appreciation in addition to psychology. However, Freud's most important and frequently re-iterated claim, that with psychoanalysis he had invented a new science of the mind, remains the subject of much critical debate and controversy.

Sigmund Freud, born in Vienna, became the originator of psychoanalysis. despite if he became by utilising no capacity the 1st person to think of roughly why we are as we are and to posit the assumption of the subconscious, he became the 1st to objective an entire thought of ways someone is psychologically built. His techniques progressed throughout his existence and human beings have progressed them very appreciably in view that his loss of life. The words and techniques human beings are maximum in all risk to return for the time of which derive from Freud's paintings are 'id' meaning our primitive selves, 'ego' meaning the form than facilitates us to function as human beings and the 'superego' meaning our experience of right and incorrect or a serious and watchful section; the thought what we are saying and do has roots in subconscious desires and fears (subsequently the 'Freudian slip' as quickly as we are saying something we did no longer propose to declare that's in fact particularly revealing); and the opportunity of analyzing objectives, no longer in accordance to a pair set formulation yet in accordance to the subconscious motivations of the dreamer. Freud talked plenty approximately 'libido' and interior this approximately intercourse and sexual motivation yet he's been particularly misunderstood as seeing intercourse everywhere and over-emphasising childhood sexuality. His understandings have been extremely based in techniques approximately sensuality and physicality. Freud has to flee Vienna after the advent of the Nazis, as he became Jewish by utilising delivery and in great possibility, and went to London, the place he died of maximum cancers in 1939. you will hit upon plenty greater on the internet in case you elect.

I'll simplify some major theories for you. If you actually read his original theoretical study its actually quite complex.
1) Source:
He is a neurologist and psychiatrist.
His theories came from his work and observation of patients with mental disorders who visited his clinic. It also came about from observation from a hypnotist at work which developed
his idea of the unconscious mind.
2)Unconscious Mind:
One of his major theories is that we have an unconscious section of the mind that controls a large part of our desires and wills. He said that the mind is like a gigantic iceberg, and only a small tip of it is the conscious portion. The giant portion under the water is the unconscious mind.
3)Id/Ego/Superego:
The unconscious mind is made up of the Id and the Ego, and Superego. He tried to explain mental disorders by means of unbalance between the 3 parts of the unconscious minds.
-The Id is the part that is fully unconscious and contains basic drives like hunger, sex, thirst etc and other desires repressed by the conscious mind.
-The Super-ego is the part that is partly unconscious and deals with morality and is also known as the conscience.
-The Ego is the part that is mostly conscious and a small part of it unconscious. It deals with external reality and is influenced by experience and knowledge. Its goal is to seek a balance between the Id (desire) and the Super-ego (conscience) using defence mechanisms (later explained).
4)Defence Mechanisms:
He also created a theory of how the unconscious mind protects the entire mind from states of unbalance from external threats, such as someone telling you that you have done something wrong and you believe that you have not. These protective backups are called Defence Mechanisms and they occur without the person being aware of it. Examples of defence mechanisms are Projection, Denial, Transference.
You can go here to find out more about each: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defence_mechanism
5) Psychosexual Development:
He created a developmental theory called 'Psychosexual Developmental Theory' of how the unconscious mind develops from a child to adult. He related this to certain hidden sexual drives or libidos which he claimed are present in everyone. Each stage has a basic pleasure focus and how much a person focuses on that kind of pleasure will predict what kind of personality and behaviour that person will have as they grow older.
Below are the stages:
-Oral Stage: 0-18mths
erogenous zone: pleasure of putting things into the Mouth
A child is either orally aggressive (grow up liking to chew things like gum) or orally passive (grow up smoking, eating a lot, kissing).
-Anal Stage: 18-36mths
erogenous zone: pleasure from bowel and bladder release
A child is either 'anal-retentive' (will grow up obsessed about neatness) or 'anal-expulsive' (grow up reckless, messy and disorganized)
-Phallic Stage: 3-6 years old
erogenous zone: pleasure focused on genitals
Involves resolving or not resolving the 'Oedipus Complex' for boys only. The Oedipus Complex is when you regard your father as a rival or competitor for love, and consider your mother as an object of sexual desire. Required to resolve the complex as the child grows older for proper functioning.
(Electra Complex for girls was developed by Jung)
-Latency Stage: 6 years - puberty
erogenous zone: none, dormant sexual desire
-Genital Stage: puberty onwards
erogenous zone: matured sexual interest
Period of turbulence where sexual interest needs to be resolved or states of unsatisfactory relationships and impotence may be of a problem in the future.
6) Other theories that are less popular:-
-Life and Death Instincts:
humans are driven by the life drive (Eros) and the death drive (Thanatos), conflicts between the two drives can result in unbalance.
-Social Psychology:
humans are driven by Group or Crowd Psychology as they form 'primal hordes' and get influenced by stopping to repress the Id's instincts and resort to primitive behavious. Also, how humans identify themselves to the individual considered as the 'ideal figure'.
7) Future influences:
-psychotherapy or 'talk'-therapy: talking through patients to find out unbalances between unconscious motives and desires and conscience
-dream analysis: dreams as clues and insights into the functioning of the unconscious minds
-literature: influenced many writers such as Edgar Allan Poe to explore hidden evil desires by writing about characters who are either mad or evil and showing the reader what goes on in their minds.
-pop culture: popular in society as people generally know about him and simplified versions of his theories. People use terms like 'In Denial', 'Oedipus Complex', 'Freudian Slips', 'Anal-Retentive' in their common use of language. Also in pop-culture is freelance Dream Analysis, and analysing speech errors or speech slips.
