There are over 2000 schools in the eastern USA and hundreds of them have majors in journalism or media studies. If you check the college rankings you see that many of the higher ranked schools are in the northeastern USA. So, there are plenty of choices (and plenty of choices that are at a higher level than U So. Carolina!)

Try working throught the college search program at Princetonreview.com and you will be able to pick out some schools that you can investigate further. Of course, two skills that journalists need are a) excellent grammar and spelling that allow them to write really good English, especially the ability to ask a question and tell the answer very tersely and elegantly; and b) the ability to do research - to be really good at digging out the facts.

You can practice both of those skills to get ready for your college application. Are you on your school paper right now? Why not? You can pick a college based on what kind of school newspapers they have. Why not check the web for any lists of award winning student newspapers. Then you can pick a school based on how much journalism experience you can get working as a student journalist. I think the UChicago is pretty famous for turning out professionals that way.
