Shouldn't the purpose be education, I think college is a scam for students to fall into, true intellects are usually the ones who drop out

True intellects are not the ones who drop out. True intellects are the ones who go to the toughest schools, love every minute of it and are probably sad to leave.

In the USA over half of all high school grads attend college. Plenty of them are not very interested in learning, have bad study skills and are not very bright. They mostly drop out. But at the Ivies, Duke, UChicago, Stanford, Berkeley, there are thousands of really smart kids who are driving themselves to be excellent in their studies. I see it every day in students I tutor. I admire them very much and have a lot of confidence that they will succeed in life and succeed in solving the problems of their generation.

Your are too young to be such a cynic. You sound like one of these 70 year old neocon thowbacks. Get in with a better crowd. You will be amazed at how smart, hardworking and sincere many of your classmates are!

College is expensive because demand is high (more and more high school graduates are attending college than ever before) and because student loans and other forms of financial aid are relatively easy to obtain (this fuels demand, or at least prevents rising costs from having the same effect on demand that you would see if funding were not readily available).

We live in a DEMOCRACY..this is not socialist or communist. If you want an education you must pay for it. We work for what we have..it should never be "easy" to go to college or everyone would. It is for those individuals who want it and will figure out how to pay for it
