We have an Xplio computer that takes DDR2 533Mhz RAM. It originally had 512MB of RAM.
We wanted to add more, and at Futureshop they told us we could use DDR2 667Mhz, so we bought 1GB of it.

Is there any possibility there will be anything negative from using these two different types of RAM?

Thanks!!

Some motherboard only accept RAMs with the same total of memory. e.g = 512 + 512, 1gb + 1gb and so on.. this could be your problem. To make sure of it, try to install the 512 RAm 1st. If it's runnig ok, take it off and replace with 1gb RAM. If that one is ok, try to put both. If the pc won't turn on, then you can only use either one of ur RAM. Sometimes pc will turn on but can read only 1 RAM, either 512 or 1gb.

Good luck!

Generally computers nowadays will accept it easily. the 667mHz will retrograde down to the 533mHz frequency. I have noticed that you don't even have to pair them now as well in some cases. There are no negative side effects to using the 'newer' ram...just that you are probably paying a little more for the newer style one to step down to the older frequency.

A great troubleshooting technique is to break the problem in half. Try using just the 1gb of ram without the other memory. This will see if that memory is good, and the pc can use it.

there wont be any problem with the two types of RAM but the catch will be just like a carriage, the fastest horse can only run as fast as the slowest horse, means your 667Mhz wont run as its supposed to be but will max only at 533Mhz

yes you shouldnt spend extra money on it.
You already have one slow ram running.
Eighter get another fast or get a slow one instead of fast.

The slow ram is going to be a backbone and you want feel potential speed.

its like a team race if one guy is fast and the other is slow as much hard as the first guy tries there not gonna be fast as a team.

hope that helps.

return it dont pay extra for the faster ram.

Basically the faster one is gonna run at same speed as slower one.

Naaah, many times you may activate it as much as 3 situations earlier you may desire to call...and in case you do, all they are going to do is ask if this is the only laptop the utility is on...purely say definite....finished it many many situations. yet purely including RAM won't impact something activation clever.

If the shoe fits.... (sorry)

As long as your motherboard will support the new RAM, (depends on number of pins), there shouldn't be any issues.

Cheers

first check you mother board user manual whether it could support two different speed.

try alone with the new one if working fine without blue screen
insert the next mem 533 and boot .

Check for ecc and non ecc with or without buffer..
