For a day or so my car had been acting really weird. Whenever I went to hit the gas pedal, my ceiling light and the no seatbelt warning light would come on; then when I would let go of the pedal, they would turn back off. This happened all of yesterday. I knew I needed to get the car checked out, but I had to take my mom to work and just wasn't able to drop it off anywhere. Tonight I went to pick her up and all of a sudden the speedometer goes crazy (meanwhile the previous problem persists) and the car loses all power and shuts down. From there, I couldn't get it started again. The headlights were bright as were the lights in the car, but the radio and windshield wipers didn't work. When I try to start the car it does absolutely nothing except occasionally make a clicking sound. What could the problem be?
Thanks a lot!

You may have a bad starter, Bad battery cable, or a bad battery it's self. I would look at the cables first. With what you described it sounds like a lose cable or a bad cable issue. but most likely I am completely wrong on this one.

Sounds like you may have an electrical problem. Not necessarily a problem with the battery since your lights are still on. You may have a loose wire somewhere that makes contact occasionally and then comes apart again. It may be anywhere in the car so unless you're mechanically and electrically inclined, your best bet is to bring it to a reputable mechanic and let them sort it out. If it's a later model car, the mechanics can plug into the computer and narrow down where the break in the circuit is located instead of testing every wire in the car. But you know you're in for a world of hurt when you bring in your car to a garage and say something's wrong...please fix it. That just means "sucker" is written all over your forehead and they can charge you whatever they want to fix it...even if it's just a loose wire. That's why I suggest a mechanic you can trust and won't rip you off...too much.

Good luck.

Since you seem to have some electrical power, it sounds like there is a short somewhere that is causing a problem. Perhaps it is a loose battery cable, or a bad connection or bad ground. Vibrations seem to make it come loose at times, so it sounds like an easy fix. Usually an electrical check is an easy and quick thing, and you shouldn't have to drop it off if it is a simple problem. Not sure where you live, but hopefully you already have a good mechanic to take it to. While I do not usually endorse them, Pep Boys seems to do a good job with basic electrical repairs. Good luck.

Sounds like a bad electrical connection that's affecting the starter and instrument circuits. Get the car into a shop.

Sounds like an earth (ground) problem to me. Very possibly a loose wire or corroded connection somewhere. Hope this helps.

You didn't say the make or year. Could be the computer access. Find someone you trust to check it out.
