Your two computers have LAN cards already installed, so there are two ways for you to do this.

The Hard Way:
-Connect a Crossover Cable between the two computers
-Set the IP Address for Computer #1 to 192.168.0.100 and the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0
-Set the IP Address for Computer #2 to 192.168.0.110 and the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0
-Make Sure the two computers have unique names
-Set the Workgroup name on the two computer to the exact same name
-Place the two IP addresses above in the trusted zone of your two computers firewall programs
-Enable file and printer sharing on the two computers

The Easy Way:
-Purchase a router and some Straight Thru Ethernet Cable
-Connect ethernet cable from Computer #1 to router
-Connect ethernet cable from Computer #2 to router
-Make Sure the two computers have unique names
-Set the Workgroup name on the two computer to the exact same name
-Place the two IP addresses above in the trusted zone of your two computers firewall programs
-Enable file and printer sharing on the two computers

Sharing Internet:
Im going to assume you have DSL or Cable.
-Connect Cable from wall to DSL/Cable Modem
-Connect DSL/Cable Modem to the WAN (Internet) Port of the router
-Setup the routers internet connection. Use the manual.
--For DSL the usual settings are PPPOE and your ISP username and password.
--For Cable the usual setting is Dynamic IP.

Hope that helps.....

If you have a router with both machines connected you can set them to the same workgroup by right clicking your computer and selecting properties, then computer name. Set the exception in the firewall for file and printer sharing. Then right click any folders or printers you want to make visible and set them shared. If you have no router you need either a switch and 2 lan cables, or connect them with a cross-over Cat5 cable. Then you will need to set up the tcp/ip information for each machine. If one of them has an internet connection you can use the network connection wizard to set up internet connection sharing, this automates the tcp/ip setup. Then run the wizard on the other machine telling it to connect to the internet through another machine. If you have no internet connection set the ip addresses to 192.168.1.5 and 192.168.1.6 or similar, then set the netmask to 255.255.255.0
No other details are relevant. The sharing and workgroup name setup above is then needed. Networking games depends on the games facilities provided.

Don't know about multiplayer games, but if you want to create a small network (to share files, a printer, web connection etc') then all you need is a 'crossover' network cable. You can get one from any electronics store. Just plug the cable into your computers, and run the Windows Network Wizard.
You can find the wizard in your network connections. This is really easy to do if you have windows xp. In the connections window, on the side are tasks that you could do, and one of them is 'set up small network'. Click it, and follow instructions.

relies upon the position the pcs are and what connections there are between the pcs. The flat out most inexpensive way is unplug the printer from one computing gadget and plug it into the different. it truly is loose yet a bore and could no longer artwork if the printers are miles aside. the subsequent most inexpensive is in the adventure that they are both on an same community. percentage it out from one computing device and on the different computing device connect a community printer. it will be on the IP address or call of the printer that does the sharing and can want to have the call you shared it out as. you want to easily remember to have record and printer sharing on the computing device doing the sharing out and the microsoft sharing shopper on the different computing device. Then it truly is purely a question of putting it up. enable sharing in domicile windows if it became disabled suitable click the printer, decide on 'properties' and then the sharing tab. on the different computing gadget use the 'upload printer' wizard to operate a community printer. both pcs could be powered up for the only utilising the percentage to print... yet no longer for the only right away stressed to the printer to print. any opposite direction will fee you money. innovations are: Printer swap including networking between both pcs community print server (by technique of then you've spent a lot money a cheap printer might want to be more low priced)

Your best bet is to pick up a cheap router. You can then run your internet into the router and then to each of your pc's, you will also be able to share files (once you run the network wizard). you will also be able to play multiplayer games this way.
