When you begin bleeding you start taking the sugar pill for that day, and than try to keep taking it at the roughly the same time each day. you should just be able to follow on from there with taking the pill each day as is said on the packaging. Actual pill for 21 days and then sugar pill for 7 days.
You will get used to it

Start with the sugar pills, on the day that corresponds with the day of your period e.g if it starts on Tuesday, take Tuesday's sugar pill. Then just remember to take them once a day, around the same time each day. Just continue taking the next sheet from the same place.
As a contraceptive the pill isn't effective until you have taken one full cycle, so use another method of contraception as well for the first cycle.
Did you know that some medications e.g. antibiotics can interfere with the pill? If on them, use other protection until one full cycle after. Always check with the doctor or pharmacist, whether any meds will interfere with the pills effectiveness. This could include herbal meds.
If you vomit, or have diarrhea anywhere in the cycle (except when on the sugar pills) you may not be covered either. Use other protection.
If you miss a pill, or take it later than 12 hours on combined pill and 2 hours on the mini or low dose pill, assume you are not covered and take extra precautions until your next cycle.

if the dr. presribes you the pill he first should have given you a pregnacy test during your visit. You should start that day. the package of pills usually have (start) which is the frist pill. The sugar pills are placibo. A packet of pills gives you 21 pills and 7 sugar pills. You take the first 21 pills each day and once your finish those you take the sugar pills which that week is when you have your cycle. You really don't have to take the sugar pills but those are intended so that you will break the pattern and won't forget when to start your next pack of pills.

You start with the active pills. The standard pack has 21 and you take those one a day at the same time for 21 days. Then you take the sugar pills, one a day for 7 days. Then you open your next pack, take 21 active pills, one a day for 21 days and then your sugar pills again.

The sugar pills are meant to be taken at the end of the pack. They are just there to remind you to take your pill everyday. If you don't want to take them, throw them out and remember to start your next pack in 7 days. If you start taking the pills on a Sunday, you throw your sugar pills out on the Saturday and start taking your new pack the next Sunday. Easy.

You start taking the pills on the first day of your period, even if you just start out spotting. You begin with the actual pills, not the sugar pills. You will take the actual hormones for three weeks, and then you will take the sugar pills for seven days. Then you will start all over again with another set, and continue with another three weeks of hormones. The one week of sugar pills is what allows you to have a period.

There should never be a time when you aren't taking either the hormones or the sugar pills. To make the pill effective, you need to be taking one each day. You will basically be on a schedule of three weeks on hormones and one week off.

Some drug companies design their pill packs with days of the week on them, and they always have the first day be a Sunday. If that is the case with your prescription, simply ignore the days on the pill pack. Do start when you first start bleeding.

I think you're supossed to take whatever the first pill in your pack is - which I think will be the real pill, not the sugar pill. I was on it for almost a year, but quit - I think it gave me bad mood swings.

take the real pill as soon as you see your period come, then you simply take one regular pill every day then the sugar pills follow and those are the days of your next period.

You can either start taking your pills on the first day of your period or start the Sunday after your period starts. You start with the actual pills.
