What education do you need to become an x-ray tech?

Awesome! Thanks... I just graduated with my AA from a University that doesn't have Radiology. I never thought of it as a major possibility until my daughter had to have x-rays. Frankly I'm sick of school. I've been in it for 3 years and with an Education major I had 2 more to look forward to with a full 15-17 credit course load. I'm exhausted from school and not so ecstatic about education any more. When I saw how young the radiology tech was I was like, Hey! Maybe I should change my major! I'd probably get my general ed classes crossed off and have a year left! Sounds like a miracle! I'll look into it more!!!
If any of you are radiology techs, what do you make per year? And if you've answered already, can you answer? Thanks!!! :)

You do not have to get an AS or BS unless you want to go into management in the future. You can earn a certificate, which is all you need to sit for the national registry exam. You can always go back for additional classes to earn your degree later. That's what I'm doing. I'm an RT taking online classes to get my BS.

"Students follow many paths into radiologic technology. Some attend two-year programs based in hospitals, earning a certificate when they graduate. Other students enroll in two-year programs at community colleges or technical schools, earning an associate degree. And others choose to attend four-year programs at universities and colleges, graduating with a bachelor's degree."

You have to have an Associates Degree from a University that sponsers the Radiography Program. I believe it takes 2 years. One year of prerequisite courses and one year of your radiology courses along with clincials..... At least the progam I was in had all that. Good luck.
