The VGA connector pin out has changed over the years since it was first specified, so without knowing how old your monitor is it is hard to say if three pins missing is a problem or not.

If it is really old, then pin 9 used to be blank, and there were four ID bit pins, typically 2 were NC and were often left out of the connector.

Even if it is more recent the current spec has 2 pins NC and two pins are a common ground, so one may be left out.

Unless you are qualified do not open the covers of a CRT. Most captive cables were not soldered to the board, but went to a custom connector or connectors on the main boar or the video amp board on the back of the CRT. The performance of the CRT will also be affected by the ferrites on the cable, the length of the cable and the quality of the cable.

If the pins are just badly bent then you can very carefully straighten then with very thin pliers. If they are broken then it's off to Radio Shack or Maplin to get the type of plug you solder on for a single ended cable, or get a new monitor-base unit cable if it's the type that has a plug at either end.

Without seeing your monitor screen,it's hard to say! VGA connectors do not use all of the pins. 'Google' VGA pinout, and look at the configuration of the pins, see which ones aren't used, match it up to yours

hi there

unfortuantly, all the pins are needed - otherwise they would not be there!

If you take your cover off your screen (makesure the power is out first!), and look inside, you may find either:1/ the wires are soldered to the curcuit board, or 2/ there is another adapter inside!

now go out and buy another cable, as long as you need it, and replace the one in your screen.

If the wires are soldered, and you do not feel comfortable with soldering wires, then you should ask someone who is. either way, you cut the wire, de-solder one cable at a time, and resolder the SAME colour to the board.

once your wire is replace, replace the cover, and test it out. if you have done it neatly and not messy, then there sould be no problem.
