I know of two people, neither of whom loved the other, who both held considerable real estate assets. The man had capital losses on his real estate while the woman had capital gains on hers. They were married in a courthouse several days before the new year, wrote his losses off against her gains and split the difference, and got a divorce several weeks later.

Those of you against gay marriage contend that such an arrangement should be legal merely because one person is a man and the other a woman. It is obvious that heterosexual marriage is abused rigorously in this country. What could possibly be so damaging about gay marriage?

Those opposing gay marriage often say it is immoral because the bible says it's immoral. Why is morality solely dictated by the bible. If a human has never heard of the bible or religion, is it impossible for him to be moral? Morality is not something that has to be learned through the bible. There is an innate sense of morality, of what's right and wrong, in humans. Our constitution states this country shall not adopt a national religion. Therefore, how can Christianity dictate our laws?

Everyone loves to forget that there is something known as CIVIL MARRIAGE. That means that God IS NOT INVOLVED, it is PURELY LEGAL. Atheists have been getting married for thousands of years - should we not call that marriage, either?

Not everyone is Christian, not everyone is religious, and EVERYONE GETS MARRIED!

Get over it!

I would say that there are 2 reasons why: 1) because most American voters and their politicians are from a Judeo-Christian background, and 2) because a gay couple cannot naturally have children (of course, they can possibly adopt, depending on the state laws, and a lesbian couple will probably use artificial insimination).

Your description of the pair of cynics who manipulated the law in order to realize a financial gain is .............. well, obviously excessively cynical. If most Americans were behaving that way, the institution of marriage, as a matter of law, would be destroyed very quickly. Fortunately, most people have better reasons for getting married.

Now, as to the constitutional argument that we don't have a national religion. No, we don't have an official religion, but our Founding Fathers never said that separation of church and state also means separation of law from morality. You have gotten confused the moral beliefs that people LEARN from their church and their Bible studies with the idea of the church as an institution in and of itself. No church can, in and of itself, make laws for our society. That is the job of legislatures. But legislatures CAN make laws which pursue the goals of protecting the health, safety, welfare, and MORALS of the people.

The real reason gays want to be married is for money. Nothing else. They want the tax breaks, the dependents on the insurance and the rights to property.

What would be damaged? How about the lost tax revenues, the burden on the already ailing health care and the family rights to property and decision making for the deceased. The whole time "the life style" we are all supposed to accepts erodes at the fabric of "family" and Herto relationships.

I already believe 80% of gays were "confused" at a young age because someone got to them. I will tolerate those that are openly gay but asking for me to accept their relationship as natural, normal, acceptable is the same as asking me to accept pedophiles as acceptable. Marriage is for the creation of children and to continue the human species. It take a man and women (remember your parents?) and certain monetary breaks are given to those who provide our next generation.

Now why do gays deserve that monetary break ?

Give the old Christians a break. Speaking from the U.S., it was formed on Christian pride and values. The term marriage is spread to every religion to unite two (or three?) to unite in a promise. For me and many others, its a promise to God. We don't ask which God, just that its a spiritual event with friends and family to help hold it. Your church should have a voice, rather then the individuals. If there is no church backing you then a "civil union" shouldn't be a problem. On that note, yes... I agree with civil unions but they have to find a more romantic term for it.

The word marriage is a defined term...union of man and woman...
Gays can get a civil union and do whatever they want with their life assets, beneficiaries etc...
No one cares what gays do to form a relationship/commitment --->, Marriage is a commitment between male+female.
Gays want to use a word-Marriage
Gays can get their own term for a commitment...
(gay unions, same sex civil union, same sex co-habitation...etc)
Gays do not want to have a new word/term as it defines their sexual preference ...
"I want to be the same but I am different"????
--People and things are what they are ..using the same term is absurd... words have specific meaning ..(every animal.food, cloud has a name ..Gays/homosexuals or heteros describe sexual preferences of humans just like tall short, cat, dog..
--The comment on marriage is abused rigorously ...
has no merit..Individuals that commit to each other are responsible for their actions/some stay together, some don't.,what does being gay have to do with the fact that humans are always able to justify a change ?

Oh, why don't you, Rosie O'Donnell, and the Civil Liberties Union just shuttup!

Gays can do whatever they want as far as I'm concerned,
except getting "MARRIED".
And don't call on the name of The Lord to bless it if they do,
how can the Lord be expected to bless a sin?

Marriage is a relationship in which two people have pledged themselves to each other in the manner of a husband (man) and wife (woman)...PERIOD!

And furthermore, Marriage, as instituted by God, is a faithful, exclusive, lifelong union of a MAN and a WOMAN joined in an intimate community of life and love. They commit themselves completely to each other and to the wondrous responsibility of bringing children into the world and caring for them.

Children need both a MOTHER and FATHER...

When God created man and woman, He instituted the first wedding at the Garden of Eden. Marriage between opposite sexes went on and on for several thousand of years. From ancient times up to the time when people are confused about their true natural feelings, they become very liberal and gave way to their feelings. They thought God erred when they were created . A man feels as if he was a woman and a woman feels she is a man. In spite of the fact that their sex organs in their bodies proved what their sexes are. Later when the rallied towards acceptance of what they call third sex whom they belong, they were given freedom to whatever they will do as long as it will not in conflict with the laws of the land where they lived. For the furtherance of their cause, some outspoken individuals proposed for a marriage of the same sex. What is more amazing is that, some of our legislators supports the idea in order to gain votes from these group of persons. Though in some liberal coubntries it is tolerated or allowed and is considered legal. But mind you people, this kind of act is not allowed in ancient times. It was the sin of Sodom and Gommorah why the two cities were burned by God. This act was abhorred by God.

Your example of a heterosexual marriage is an abuse of marriage and should not be permitted.
Unfortunately, it is impractical if not impossible to legislate for every possible violation of ethics that can be imagined by those with criminal intentions.
All gay marriage is abusive as regards the intention of marriage.
Marriage is for procreation and protection of families.
It is a fact that modern society finds ways to abuse EVERYTHING.
The immoral and unethical dishonesty of individuals does not negate the proper intent of the practice of marriage.
DON'T confuse the issues with spurious or specious arguments.
Marriage is good - gay marriage is a bastardization of the whole intent of marriage.

I agree. Everyone keeps harping on about the sanctity of marriage. Personally, I think that that went out the window a long time ago. In a world where people get married off for entertainment and money (Who Wants 2 Marry a Millionaire & Who Wants 2 Marry a Prince); if two consenting adults who love each other want to make the ultimate commitment....who are we to say no?

I live in MA, we're obviously the 1st state to have legal gay marriage and I can tell you first hand, NOTHING has changed. I don't know any straight couples who have a meaningless marriage now just because gays can marry as well. It comes down to ignorance, and those religious whackjobs who think all gays are sinners, going to hell, etc. What your neighbor does has nothing to do with you. Honestly, I stopped trying to figure out why they think it should be illegal a long time ago because you just can't make any sense out of it.

MAJORITY RULE. Over 80% of America are whites; from the Judeo-Christian culture. They decide the laws for everyone - ALL American citizens. If "gay marriage" is illegal, then it IS illegally. No two ways about it.

ALL minority groups (religious, non-white race) MUST obey the laws passed by the Majority (Whites). This is the only way. Liberties or civil rights of the minority (religious and non-whites) will be trampled on from time to time. Tough! Majority rule!!
