I'm stuck at this question

Select the true statements concerning mitosis and meiosis from the following:

1. meiosis results in four genetically identical daughter cells from each parental cell.
2. homologous pairing of chromosomes occurs only in meiosis
3. fusion of male and female centromeres holds pairs of doubled chromosomes together during early meiosis
4. DNA synthesis occurs only once during mitosis or meiosis
5. The chromosomes descended from the male parent pass as a set into gametes; similarly for female chromosomes.

a. all of them
b. 1, 2, 4
c. 1 and 5
d. 4 only
e. 2 only

The teacher wrote that the answer should be b and I'm confused as to why. I know that 2 is true and that 4 is true but I thought only mitosis resulted in identical daughter cells from each parental cell and meiosis was different. so how can it be option B? can someone please help?! Thank you

and I know 5 is completely wrong. I'm not sure about 3 but it doesn't matter anyway because its not included

Well, we know that 1 is incorrect because during meiosis we will obtain 4 daughter cells that will be haploid and that are genetically different because of recombination and the fact that only half of the genetic material was passed to the two daughter cells during meiosis I.

Homologous pairing only ultimately occurs during mitosis because meiosis results in haploid cells.

You already know that 4 is incorrect so the correct answer must be D.

There are two different parts of Meiosis. Meiosis I will result it two haploid cells from the parent cell and both of these cells will be identical. The cell with then undergo Meiosis II which is more or less identical to Mitosis. In Meiosis II the DNA replicates and the 2 daughter cells split into two more identical daughter cells with the same DNA has the the other two daughter cells. The daughter cells are all identical to each other but not to the parent. They have half the number of chromosomes as the parent.

I'm not sure that the answer is listed. I think 2 and 4 are right. Chromosomes don't need to pair up for mitosis, only for meiosis. DNA synthesis only occurs once for both processes, it's the number of divisions that differs. 1, 3, and 5 are wrong. I'd check with your teacher and see if an error was made.

I think the only true statement is D. or #4

1 results in four haploid cells but they're not identical due to recombination.

2 isn't right either because chromosomes pair up in mitosis as well as meiosis.

pass with your doorstep mom. do no longer enable anybody - no longer your "mothers" and no one answering your question - turn this right into a case of who's your "genuine" mom vs your doorstep mom. it quite is an consumer-friendly case of who has been there for you and who has been supportive of you and who will help you to to make your very huge day a delightful one quite than one crammed with conflict and guilt tripping. you will finally - and greater useful merely before later - ought to confront your bio-mom approximately her guilt tripping and approximately producing any conflict surrounding your wedding ceremony. If she would be able to't comply with get alongside and make your huge day a delightful one for everyone then her messages, calls, etc to you will pass handed over and he or she ought to plot on no longer attending. Sounds harsh because of the fact i did no longer take any time attempting to compliment gentle words. you ought to do a greater useful interest than I did, yet i think of you easily ought to have this communique with your bio-mom... if for no different reason than if she screws this up she will have the means to be putting the tone for any destiny courting with you and your husband... and grandchildren... and... etc. She'll be making a decision which will impression something of her existence so she greater useful make darn constructive what's greater significant to her - recrimination and conflict or unity and cooperation.
