Yes, the drain is also reversed on a sink, etc.

Apparently I was wrong, I'm glad you asked and I checked into it. It doesn't reverse due to the hemisphere:

The "toilet bowl effect" you mention is actually for the the northern and southern hemispheres. The water in a toilet, or a drain spirals counter-clockwise in the northern hemisphere, and clockwise in the southern hemisphere. This is caused by the Coriolis Effect...

The Coriolis effect is the apparent deflection of objects from a straight path if the objects are viewed from a rotating frame of reference.

This effect also causes the rotation in a weather system Low Pressure (e.g., tropical storm) area to rotate counter-clockwise and clockwise about an area of High Pressure.

Not true. The direction of toilet flushes and other plumbing whirlpools depends on the angles at which water enters and exits the bowl and the shape of the bowl. The idea that it has something to do with the Coriolis effect is a fallacy and is easily disproved. Go to a dozen toilets and sinks and see if they all swirl the same direction.

No, not reliably.

The Coriolis effect, which causes hurricanes to spin clockwise in the Southern hemisphere, will act on a toilet bowl. But it is so small (consider the "lever arm") that the initial flow will determine the direction of the vortex.

The path of the spinning could be plenty greater laid low with the the area and length of the mass to be disposed of.and the path that the water is shot into the bowl. i could suspect that the coriolis effect may be very minimum.

it is a theory that the direction the toilet flushes determines what hemisphere your in

I've heard that. I assume it's true, unless it's just a vicious rumor.

On the other side of the world they take a dump in trenches (or, in your case, I didn't know outhouses rotated in any direction!!)
