Most routers give you the option to disable your SSID broadcast. This way only you can connect and anyone who pulls up in front of your house will not even see your network to even join if they wanted to. I am usin the Belkin N1 wireless router and have mine set to disabled, as I did with my previous DLink. No one can access it, trust me I tried with other computers. WiFI is only as secure as you make it-set up security to WPA. Most routers give a walkthrough in how to set up your security.

The easiest way is by setting your router to use WPA(or maybe WEP, not sure which)-PSK, which encodes the data you send, and forces computers that try to connect to your wireless hotspot to know the password. Contact the company that made your Router/wireless hotspot for more information on how to do it with your specific hotspot. It might also be in your instruction manual.

Enable WPA encryption (WPA-PSK is the easiest way) with a good password, and change the default password for the router. WEP can be cracked in minutes, and disabling SSID broadcast doesn't stop anyone from picking it up by sniffing traffic.

Wifi is secure if you enable security with strong encryption. You have to configure this in your wireless router. You can select WEP or WPA security with strong 128 bit encryption.

when you make or get a WiFi account you get an access code. Turn your settings to need that code everytime you log on. If you dont then other people can use it.
