Usually still copyrighted if the copyright was renewed after 70 years. Copyrights usually last 70 years. You can't use them for commercial purposes but you can use them in studio art intended for galleries and museums.

if you are talking USA teams, the logos are registered as trademarks which NEVER expire as long as they are in use. out-of-use trademark owners can still keep registrations in-force by periodic renewal.

the "Washington Senators" was first used in 1901. and most recently renewed, 2006 by Baseball Expos.

the "Milwaukee Braves" continues to be owned by the team in Atlanta GA.

it is unlikely that someone does not have a claim in the use of the old trademarks. not all of these claims are necessarily valid, but your attorney would not be happy if you used them.
