I would like to know how is the work situation up in canada, especially vancouver b.c.? I am an actor thinking of moving back and i am also a canadian citizen. BACKGROUND WORK ALSO!
What is the pay? How often do you work and what ages are working more often. Is it worth it to join ACTRA? Pretty much all info on the subject will be appreciated!

Sorry, I'm not a member, but since no one has answered you yet I'll give it a go.

I would imagine ACTRA works much the same way AFTRA does, but of course I cannot know for sure. You can check out their site for more specific info http://www.actra.ca/actra/control/main. I'm sure dues and pay scale info is readily avilable. Many actors get work in Vancouver and many US shows tape there.

If it's anything like here, I wouldn't join unless Ihad to. There's no point in paying them all that money until someone says you have to because once you join you're stuck paying dues whether or not you work. I do know that in order to join as a backgroun performer, you must work an ACTRA show at least 24 days in a 12 month period so you'll have to start working before you join anyway :-) On the upside, I don't think their dues is nearly as high as it is here in LA.

Good luck!
