A few days ago, my car wouldn't start. So we jump started it, and sure enough it worked. So I figured it was a dead battery. But my uncle said it couldn't be (keep in mind, he isn't much of a car guy), so he messed with something underneath where the dashboard is at. A bunch of wires. So I bought a new battery, and it still won't start. Instead, I hear a clicking noise from where those wires are at. Anyone got any advice, or at least know what the problem is? its kind of an emergency now considering I have power windows, and the driver side one is open, and I can't even close it. Someone please help!!!

It's either a relay switch (under the hood, like a big switch) or something wrong with your new battery.
Is the clicking consistent and fast? If so, then it's due to what I wrote above, or in my case (I had a similar problem), my battery terminal was loose.
If it's one click, then it's likely the starter (which is much more of a server problem).
Sorry, car problems are never fun.

ok i am having this problem as we speak or type that is. Since you are hearing clicking noises and maybe a faint buzz sound. you are either has a burnt out cillnoid(spelling). or the starter is stuck or burnt out. if your car is a manual transmission you should be able to start it by putting it into second and either someone pushing you or going down a hill and you have to get to at least 10mph to get it started. and it should. then i would take it to a auto shop right away. if your car is an automatic then i dont know what to tell you.

Have the alternator checked out. The clicking noise is what I've heard in the past when mine went out. The "for sure" moment will be in you can't get a jump start from another car.

The ignition switch is under the dash, and so is your neutral/park safety switch. I would initially suggest that you check your battery cables, but with an unqualified mechanic messing around under the dash, it could be anything. Take your car to a shop and make your uncle pay the bill.

Ya if it's clicking it's probably the starter. You can sometimes tap on it with a hammer and can get it to start. (Learned it from my dad and it seems to work!) You might wana get the alternator checked out too. Also make sure your battery terminals are nice and tight. If they are loose then your car sometimes won't start because it's not getting enough power.

hi.First of all NEVER play with wireing unless you know what you are doing. This can lead to widespread problems. The most likely problem is your voltage regulater. In the OLD day voltage regs used to be outside your alternater. That is not the case anymore.Hook up a ampmeter to your alternatar and test for amount of power that the alternator is kicking out.I think that it maybe not much,so in my opinion its most likely your alternator.Once again never play with wireing, which is why power windows are not working

it sounds like it's the starter. check the wires that he played with as well. if the wires were in the dash, it would be impossible to effect stuff under the hood. i would check the cables to the battery and have the starter checked

clicking sounds like it indicates a relay. look for a small metal box the size of a lighter that has a few wires going into it. Hey.. you forgot to mention what year make and model.
This is essential to properly diagnose such problems

good luck
