I think Kids this day and time need their Asses beat more often. I'm proud to say that my parents beat my *** when I did something wrong. And I knew better than to do it again. I'm also proud to say my parents raised me to give respect and to be polite and have manners. Unfortunately this day and time parents seem to not care.

I'm almost 60 years old. I was raised in a different world than the kids of today. I know what you are saying and I can't say I disagree but there are other factors. One of these other factors is a Government run amuck. All a child has to do is say anything about discipline at home and social services will be involved, the kid will be in a foster home and the parents will be in jail.

I have two younger siblings, 10 years to be specific. One of them has no children but the other has two. She does not treat them as children. She treats them as little adults and kids aren't adults, little or otherwise.

I guess my point is; there are more facets to this problem than first meets the eye. If my kids were in school now and told the teacher that I had spanked them, the fact that they had nearly killed themselves or someone else would not be considered. I would be behind bars.

So group the parents as I do if you like. Some are scared, some don't care, some discipline and get away with it and some don't and small group actually abuse their children.

I have two married children, they both have children. I have watched the parenting techniques used by both. They are different and their children show it. The liberal parents have wild kids, the conservative one doesn't. They are all kids and get into mischief but one will lie about it, have fits, scream, cry incessantly and so on.

I don't know what the answer is but if you look at gang members and other criminals, most have had problems with inadequate or improper parenting. And single parent homes suck.

Oh I so agree. I think it is horrible. Kids have no manners now, I know when I would act out when I was younger my parents would take me for "bathroom talks".

I'm only 16 and I can't stand some the kids now a days. -.-

Don't get me wrong I love kids, but some them, their parents don't like you said keep them in check.

Thank you, and have a good night! (:)

That is a huge problem these days... but, as a teacher, I have to say, there are still a lot of really amazing kids out there. I am often very impressed with the maturity and poise of some of my students.

some parents? try most parents. kids need control and discipline and too many parents are trying to be friends and not parents. the kids are just testing them, looking for limits and the parents are not setting any.

Parents need to quit trying to be their kids' best friend and just be parents. Friendship comes later.

Yes and some parents need to learn that they can't be their children's friends and that they are the ones in charge and not the kids.

100 % yes , just go to a restaurant or the grocery store . It's like a game to see who can be the most annoying . I'm not just talking about the children on p & s .
