Don't put a lot of pressure on yourself. Choose a time of day when you are relaxed, and do it at the same time everyday. Try to write three sentences about your day -- you don't have to go on and on. (-: One of them can be about the weather, if you had a really boring day! Many weather journals from centuries past turned out to be very helpful to scientists trying to figure out weather patterns -- because they were the only records available.
Here are some things that will be interesting to read about later:
Your friends
Movies you have seen
Actors/Actresses you like
Popular songs
TV shows you watched
Try to include one thing about each of your teachers every year.
Something that really touched you during the day.
Things you win or excel at.
When you receive a letter or a package, make a note of it. Any presents are good to record, too.
When you send a letter, package or give a present, it's a good idea to make a note of that, too.

The main thing to remember when you are writing your journal is there are no rules. You don't have to worry about spelling or proper grammar etc... Just keep writing; don't second guess yourself and you'll do great.
The thing that really helped me to get started was to check out a bunch of books at the library on journal writing. It doesn't matter which ones. They all pretty much say the same thing. Skim through them until you find one that you think will help, and start doing the exercises that you think will help.

pick up a pen and the journal and start writing, anything and everything that happens to you in a day, eventually you will start talking about your dreams or your feelings about things and it will start to get more interesting.
