Babe Ruth hit 29 HR in 1919. Before that, the single-season record was held by Ned Williamson, who hit 27 in 1884.

27...but it depends on what year you mean

i believe it was even less.

but so that you know because no one ever brings this up ruth played on a field that was 289 in left and 290 in right.

so maybe that's why he hit so many bombs.

just a guess.
