Yeah, it was never God's intention for a man to marry more than one woman. He probably would have created more than Eve if that were the case. It's suppose to be an equal parternship. In the Old Testament there are many instances of mulitiple wives. It's never condoned. Often God punishes those with many wives. Solomon with all his wisdom and riches was not content and he had multiple wives and concubints. He was miserable. There's never an instance of God rewarding those who marry more than once at the same time.

I love it. People will claim "that's the Old Testament" then turn around and use the OT part about the 10 Commandments or not allowing witchcraft or quoting Psalms or Proverbs or the creation of man or the flood or passover, all of which are in the nasty Old Testament.
Yes many "righteous" men had numerous wives and also nailed their "handservants" who would then give birth on the knees of the main wife so it became 'her' child.
Those of you claiming otherwise have never cracked open the bible to actully read it. Just because you can't handle it doesn't mean it isn't in there.

it's in the Bible to use as an example for us that the consequences of that action was not good or good for some reasons in their time but not today. having a children more than you can support. dividing your assets that depends on how many spouses you had. well the Bible not literally said it but its a proper way to think that in reality we will just looking for serious trouble for having such huge family.
did they done it against God's will?
Every good things are from God. God never change yesterday, today and tomorrow. what God said that's it. "a man and a woman." it looks like 1 man and 1 woman to be united in marriage. and the rest was sin. is sin from God? no, definitely not.

In the Bible God's people weren't married to more than one woman, they had a wife and also a servant woman. They weren't married to the servant woman although she did usually bear his children as well.... All that was changed when Jesus came and died..The things in the Old Testament no longer apply, such as burnt offerings and having more than one woman.. Some people such as the Mormon faith still believe it is OK and so it depends on your faith to how you feel about polygamy... Talk to your pastor and I am sure he or she can help you understand this better.. Good luck and God bless..

actually if you look at most other mammals they have one male to more than one female it helps populate the Earth
(but we are different from other animals in that God has given us of His Spirit)
all though it wasn't a sin the bible says that it dishonors your first wife to take another
So maybe it is in the nature of a man to desire more than one woman
But Human nature is not usually spiritually correct
for instance it may be in my nature to nail someone in the mouth for being mouthy but it wouldn't be christainly
Also the bible says in 1Timothy 3:2 says that a Bishop must be the Husband of one wife
and in other places in suggest that having too many wives is foolish and leads to sin
but after all of this the great men of old had more than one wife more often than not
they also sacrificed live animals though

Again not everyone lives by what is in "the bible". What they did back in history was according to THEIR religion, not Christianity. The bible is basically a history book not everything within the pages of the bible pertains to Christianity. There are many religions discussed throughout the bible, Christinaity in fact is based in Judaism...Jesus was jewish.

Jesus made it clear in Matthew chapter 19 that God intended from the beginning for marriage to be a relationship between exactly one man and exactly on woman.
All those old testament guys with more than one wife were doing it wrong, and Jesus made that clear.

The bible was written by MEN, not God. Men like to have sex with as many women as possible, that's all there is to it. Marrying one woman at a time came about when women started coming with property and money. Women were a part of that property. And, most of those men back in the day had sex with lots of women even hough they were married, because men like to have sex with lots of women.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not anti-marriage or anti-men; I'm happily married in fact. I'm a biologist, and biologically men are supposed to spread their seed. You just can't squash thousands of years worth of instinct with a few vows. Anyway, before this silly bible told people to have one wife, having many was common and expected. Women were given to men as gifts, parts of contracts, and sold.

the bible says that no man shall have more than one wife because that would totally ruin the bond and sacredness of a marriage people with other religions believe it is ok to have more than one this goes for women as well
