Research shows (always a good phrase to use when BShittng) that only about 10% of the sense data impinging on our senses is consciously 'perceived'. Possibly the rest is subliminal, and rather than being lost or rejected passes to the lower part of our brain which is responsible for instinctive actions. This would explain 'gut reactions' or almost subliminal reflex actions or behaviours. I would not rely on it as if my hypothesis is true, then the necessary preprocessing of the information as in the higher brain would be totally absent.

I would have said 'no' but last Monday night I laid down to sleep and suddenly I smelt something scorching mixed with 'blown-out candle' smell. I got up and checked everywhere but the smell was no longer there. I laid down again and again smelt the same smell. After searching, I gave up but left the bedroom door open - weird thinking here - so that if something was smouldering, the smoke alarm in the hall would beep and wake me! Nothing happened. Next day I telephoned my cousin to ask something-or-other and she told me she had had a small fire in her house - 'fine now - just a few things scorched. I left a candle burning' - Now this is where you hum the tune from 'Outer Limits'.

This is a doozy of a question. Are you speaking about supernatural or natural. for natural, only slightly. Humans can detect some strong electromagnetic charges and some frequencies of waves that we cannot otherwise hear.
if you are talking about the supernatural, than possibly. There is a lot of debate about that, and most research is faked. But I personally believe that yes, humans are capable of detecting things that are not "naturally" of this world. Now I am not trying to get superstitious on you or anything, but there is a very good chance that things exist in so-called "spiritual" realms that some people may be able to catch and others may not. You can go either way with this. but take it as you see it. You don't have to believe me if you don't want to, but myself and two of my friends frequently see and hear things that no one else can detect. I know they are not in my head because i am not the only one who sees them. like i said though, this is the internet, and behind our wall of anonymity anyone could post anything. take it as you see it.
If you are wondering about why I say these things i shall tell you about myself. I am a christian, and my two friends are not. one is a taoist and the other is an atheist. I do believe that the things we can see are supernatural. But I also know they are not demonic or angelic. kind of like a neutral force in the world, if you will. either way, thought i should clarify where i was coming from. Honestly, take life as you can see it. if there is something out there that you need to see, you shall see it.

in a sense yes. most people are not able to use it. when you are an infant i think its pretty strong. but as your brain develops that ability starts to fade away. some people are able to tap into it as an adult. it's all about exercising that special part of your brain. if you want to learn how to use it pick up some books on astro travel and that sort. it's a very fascinating study!

i'm not sure about the sixth sense where we see paranormal things.. but we all have a so called third eye. not the eye that sees ghosts! but a light-sensitive part in the center of our forehead where you would imagine a real eye.

Yes a lot of people have it, and if you do have it you will know to use it. Animals have
it nobody tells them how to use it they just know, it is built in. No animals were drowned in the terrible floods in Sri Lanka, before the floods came all the animals ran to higher ground, even the elephants broke their chains and headed for the hills.

I think so, probably feelings.

I can normally tell when something has gone wrong to someone close to me , or if that certain person is about to phone or text me. Last week she went in hospital suddenly and whilst i didnt know exactly what was wrong i did not sleep that night and was thinking about her, not until the am did she tell me she had been in hospital...

Not now, but maybe as an infant. Ever heard of the phrase, "If you don't use it, you lose it." It will be virtually impossible for a sense to miraculously appear now.

If you had a sixth sense you wouldn't have had to ask the question.
