I believe we should put the money and resources into research that actually show promise. I do agree that we need to do stem cell research but with adult stem cells. They show much more promise in coming up with cures than does embryonic stem cell research. Why would we want to go down a road that shows little if no promise of cures? If you were sick and put some money towards research would you want it to go to embryonic stem cell research that has shown us little in the way of cures or would you want the money to go to adult stem cell research that actually shows promise? Leaving any moral issues out you would have to go with the adult stem cell research. The problem we are having is that we have a huge liberal base that is trying to shove the embryonic stem cell research down our throats. If we really cared about those who are sick we would want to get cures as soon as possible and go with the research that shows the most promise.

Stem cell research that destroys human life is acceptable because embryonic development is not as valuable as a full grown human being because stem cells, although controversial, have the ability to help treat diseases that consume peoples’ lives.
Stem cells have the capability to develop into any kind of cell. While the person is alive, stem cells have replenishing and healing abilities and can specialize in more than one function. The goal of stem cell research is to repair damaged cells that can advance medical care.
Stem cells have the potential to treat neurological diseases that effect the brain and spine for years to come. It has been found that the use of stem cells are able to treat such disease as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. These undifferentiated cells can change the forefront of medicine. It can be determined that through this great research that an abundant of medical treatments will arise that help in the healing of biological errors that cause such terminal diseases.
My uncle had four stem cell transplants during his fight against Multiple Myeloma. It was these treatments that gave him four great years that he wouldn't be able to experience without them. His health took a dramatic turn after each one. He was no longer throwing up or weak from the chemotherapy that once ruled his life. Stem cells can change the lives of people who are consumed with these crippling diseases.
I believe that the use of embryonic stem cells in research is justified despite the fact that it is causing the death of one cell, it is giving the potential for other cells to grow and flourish in its place. I think that the good in stem cell exploration outweighs the bad. Our society can benefit greatly with the use of stem cells.

Pros and Cons of Stem Cell research
http://www.bootstrike.com/Genetics/StemCells/proandcon.html
What are the benefits of stem cell research?
Imagine a world where transplants could be done without the sacrifice of another person losing an organ. This world exist only within the boundaries of stem cell research.
What stem cell research strives to achieve is the cultivating and nuturing of stem cells, the basic cell of the body, enabling it to be reproduced to other specific part of the body. The implications are obvious, limbs and organs could be grown from scratch in a lab, then used in transplants or to cure illnesses.
By providing the raw material for virtually every kind of human tissue, new treatments for a wide range of human diseases including diabetes, heart disease, some forms of cancer, and Parkinson's disease can now be developed.
This research also benefits the study of development events that cannot be studied directly in a human embryo, which would cause major clinical consequences such as birth defects, infertility and pregnancy loss. A more complete understanding of normal development will ultimately allow the prevention or treatment of abnormal human development.
Another advantage is the ability to test millions of potential drugs and medicine, without the use of animals or human testers. This requires a process of simulating the effect the drug has on a specific population of cells. This would tell if the drug is useful or probematic.

What are the disadvantages of stem cell research?
There are no problems surrounding the method of research. However, the problem lies in the source of the stem cells. As explained in the methods section, the stem cells are either obtained from pluripotent cells in human embryos or fetuses.
This leads to many under handed means to obtain the embryos or fetus, causing problems in the "organs black market". This entire situation gives rise to the illegal sale of the embryos or fetus by doctors. The research in stem cells have also raised many religious and social issues (see Issues).

I am in favor of stem cell research. The results might save lives and restore the health of millions of people.
I know that many people oppose embryonic stem cell research because, "It has not been proven!"
Of course it hasn't been proven! How is it ever going to be proven if scienists are banned, or severely restricted, from conducting their research?
For me, the bottom line is clear: STEM CELLS ARE MORE VALUABLE IN A RESEARCHER'S TEST TUBE THAN IN AN INCINERATOR!

I think the well being of a nine year old girl with diabetes trumps the well being of some cells in a petri dish. Let's get on with it. Of course it's going to take a while before we perfect the treatment, but that's what research is all about.
If the religious nut jobs don't want to participate, they don't have to. Let them die from their diseases because they were too ignorant to separate a grown human being from undifferentiated cells, naked to the human eye, in a petri dish. Ultimately they are concerned that the cells are suffering as a result of this research. I would rather see invisible cells suffer then my family or friends with deadly diseases.

stem cell research is not a bad thing if the stem cells come from a lab and i mean made and collected in the lab it could save more lives than any other medicine used to date

Tis research holds promise for saving thousands of lives. Yet it is being held up by the desire of a few narrow-minded religious fanatics who are forcing their religious beliefs on others.
I can--and do--respect those who don't want to participate (e.g., by donating embryonic stem cells) for personal reasons. But I do not respect those who attempt to force those eliefs on others.

I;m all for it. There are all these embrios just sitting around that are never going to be implanted into a woman and never become a child. This science could save untold lives. You want America to regain it's place of being respected the world over? I bet a cure for cancer or AIDS would be a good start. To the people against it I can only say this....
"some of these people are just grinding a political axe and they should be ashamed of themselves."

Stem cellular study is banned the position I stay, yet I desire it wasn't. it would want to benefit this a lot sturdy for such an excellent number of persons. If slightly one is going to be aborted besides, what's faulty with giving the embryo to technological know-how and doubtless making a wide massive difference for persons contained in the longer time period. The embryos are donated consensually too.

Seems the majority of the answers above this one say what I feel.
Anything such as this to save AND change lives in ways never dreamt of just a short time ago is incredible.
Bush will answer for his 'cowtowing' to the conservative religious right simply for votes.
Even a 'lame-duck' pres. with a lame duck mind like his can figure that out.
He could do a "left turn" as a 'lame duck' pres. and tell the truth, that this kind of work is necessary and he misjudged it from the start.
What has he got to lose ??
