Desperation. If there's nothing else to eat -- the land is barren, etc. A group of Rugby players aboard an airplane that crashed in the Alps in Chile ended up eating the flesh of the ones who died. They made a movie about it called "Alive".

Most would do it as a last resort to survival. Even then, I believe they would wait until someone died before the act was committed. I know there have been a number of cases of cannibalism in the US but relative to all the people that have starved to death, very few indeed.
I believe most people, if faced with certain starvation and death, would probably also do this. I believe I would or at least provide this meat for my family.

Because they're desperate for food or are crazy.
Personally, I'd rather die then eat another human being. But that's just me.

They have no more income because they are being taxed to death thanks to past tax cuts for the rich; they lost their jobs thanks to tax breaks for doing business overseas, and they can't eat the food because our present government gutted the FDA and any other regulatory agency in charge of overseeing this country's food stock....questions?

maybe because they are stranded on an island, and somebody dies, and they will die if they do not get food so they go to their last choice and consume the fello cadaver
