Hi all, I was wondering what everyone thought about the scene with Halle Berry and Peter Boyle in the movie Monster's Ball. Any answers would be appreciated.

It was demeaning for the character for what he said to her, but it did help her win an Oscar.

That was with Billy Bob Thornton, not Peter Boyle...it was pretty good...i felt bad for Halles son.

Peter Boyle played "Buck Grotowski" in the film, the father of Hank Grotowski, Billy Bob Thornton's character and was the one when Halle Berry's charactor "Leticia" told her that he like to fool around with "dark meat".

I found it entirely in charactor, based on Hank's views toward the black children his son ("Sonny" portrayed by Heath Ledger prior to committing suicide) befriended and how he reacted towards them prior to meeting and befriending Leticia and trying to help her son after he had been hit by a car in the rain.

The scene was pivotal in the movie as it demonstrated how Hank's charactor had changed his views and priorities, siding with Leticia and deciding to put his father in a home.

I hope it helped people who are like Peter Boyle's character to see just how stupid they are.
